Need a Light?

Oncor Energy, an electric company in Texas, has five energy efficiency programs following the "green" transition around the world. The company has launched a campaign for the state's residents in which a total of 8 electric companies educate consumers about the importance of compact fluorescent light bulbs. With this type of bulb alone individuals with a company such as Energy Star could save up to 75% on their energy bills. Additionally, the bulbs are a "better choice for the environment," and could potentially reduce cooling bills. These lights are a little more expensive, however, they last much longer.

I'd advise you to look into your electric company to see what you can do to save energy. Simple saving tips allow for more "green" in the pockets.

In conjunction with yesterday's post, other energy saving methods include:

  • Replacement of air conditioning units; equipment must be a new matched indoor/outdoor system with ARI (American Refrigeration Institute) energy efficiency rating of 14 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) or higher
  • Replacement of heat pumps; equipment must be a new matched indoor/outdoor system with ARI energy efficiency rating of 14 SEER and a HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) of 8.2
  • Replacement of electric water heaters
  • Installation of ENERGY STAR windows, refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers
  • Reduction of infiltration in a single family home, multifamily home or small business
  • Installation of renewable energy sources such as solar panels.

Oncor alone offers 5 efficiency programs with incentives helping individuals' everyday. For more info, visit http://www.oncorgroup.com/
