Blog Comments - The Good Bad And The Ugly

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Second Self Virtual Assistance

All blog comments are good - even the bad and the ugly.

Good Comments - All Good
Bad Comments - Negative
Ugly Comments - Spam

Good comments are all good. They are the ones that compliment our writing style, information or content. Good comments can lead to relationships and more business. These are the comments that we look forward to receiving and responding to.

Bad comments are good; although they may not be enjoyable. Negative comments are the ones that make you want to reply with a "go pound sand" response. However, if someone has left a comment that disagrees with your statements, you have just received an opportunity to convert a non-believer to a believer. You have also received the opportunity to show your expertise, knowledge and professionalism.  It could, at the very least, be a great way to improve upon your own skills.

Ugly comments are comments left by spammers. Some people have nothing better to do with their time. Others spam because spamming is a lucrative business. Even though these comments are annoying, there is even good to be found in them. Be happy - someone found your blog. Some "ping" is better than no "ping". You get the satisfaction of either deleting the comment or reporting it as spam (depending on the blogging format you use.). Most blogs either block spam (WordPress) and place it in a spam queue or use a "word of the day" (Active Rain) to keep spammers and robots from leaving comments.

Good, Bad or Ugly - all comments are good.  So, be thankful and always respond even if it is with the delete button for spammers.

I enjoy comments and tend to leave even the bad ones as long as they are not vulgar or outright lies.

Christopher - I'm sure we can all learn from the comments we get - whether we like the content or not.

Patrick - No one likes getting those ugly comments.  Hopefully, as we continue to work on our businesses and the latest trends, we will be able to make those ugly comments come fewer and farther between.

i still prefer the good ones and bad ones to the ugly ones!  haha  - either way, it's a comment which means someone felt compelled by what you wrote to leave it!

I kind of agree with you, Leesa.  I actually feel bad when I don't get a lot of responses to my blog posts.

I can't agree that spam of any sort is a good thing.  It dilutes the value of the the positive and negative comments, and wastes our time trying to get rid of it.

Commenting is like sugar, it tastes good by itself, it also makes the medicine of constructive criticism taste good.  And, it keeps you going:) I love comments of any kind, because I know someone's reading.

I agree with all except the spam comments. They aren't good. Then again, at least it means you can be found! :)

Eileen - You are so right.  Spam is a major pain.  A person could get finger cramps just hitting the delete button.  Thank goodness, that we have such a tool.

Brian - You are right, no one really enjoys spam. Thankfully Active Rain does a magnificant job of keeping spam out of our blog format. Unfortunately spam is part of the virtual world and other blogging formats are not as restrictive. Since I am a "look for the silver lining in every cloud" type of person, when I receive a spammer's comment I chose to: 1) think, well at least they found me; 2) revenge is sweet - delete.

Thanks Pamela,

Comemtn spam can be a real problam on indy blogs. However, without comments, readers, and particpants, then the blog is kind of "dead end". So, attracting commentors and blogroll exchnages with those legitmate participants makes a blog effective.

We built the Blog Comment Assistant for Real Estate to help agents genuinely participate with other bloggers, not to create spam. Please give it a review, if you would.
