I sent out 1 mass email for a listing of mine and received some angry calls.

I have done mass flyer emails before and this is the first time it has happened. I logged onto THIS SITE and I completed a simple flyer like all of us Realtors and Loan Agens receive on a daily basis and picked out the cities I thought would be interested in my listing.

After I completed everything and pressed send I recieved one confirmation email saying my order was processed and another email showing me what other Realtors would see on my flyer. I would say about 4 hours passed by and I received a phone call and this guy I could tell was upset. He told me to stop sending him emails and I tried to explain to him what happened and he kept cutting me off so I had to give him the dial tone.

I recieved a second call and it was another agent telling me to stop sending him emails and I told him it was out of my control and that I would email or call the company to have them stop sending them. At this point I thought he seemed reasonable but I eventually had to hang up on him too.

Today I received a call form another Realty World office in San Jose and this agent was very understanding and just wanted to give me the heads up.

Has this happened to anyone else before and how can you prevent this, or a good recommendation on flyer email ads.

Ok I'm done with my ranting!!!!

Mike --- I used two companies in the past for electronic flyers, when it was not so common place (and actually, quite unique when I was one of a few agents in my area using them).

Try:

They both have opt-out capability. What company wouldn't? Otherwise, they will be considered spam mail.

I stopped doing these after a while when I began receiving so many flyers. I found myself reading only the subject line, then delete, delete, delete. So the headline is the most important thing when sending these out.

Good luck!

I have to say I've been getting emails for things I don't need or want, and there is no opt out button.

An opt out button is totally essential!! And if it is outside your market area, don't send very often. If I receive multilple emails from an out of area office I opt out.  If it's only occasionally, then I am curious and don't mind.

Hey Mike, I absolutely HATE getting those stinking e-flyers from agents!  It's just plain SPAM.  If you enter your listings in MLS, then if your listing meets any of my cliients' search parameters, we'll find it.  I'm sorry, man.  I just get way too much SPAM email without my own associates adding to the pile.  Yes, I can hot the delete key, which I do.  But I also report it as SPAM to my ISP.  You apologized for the rant.  Now I'llapologize for my rant, too.   :)

Hey Randy it really does not bother me when I get the emails. I think it's good to know what properties have been just listed if you have buyers. This also shows your seller you are going the extra step to get more eyes viewing their home. I understand your opinion too.. :)

I'm interested to see what e-mail blast software people recommennd because I want to start doing this as well.  I will make sure it has an opt-out button but most people should have the sense to realize technology isn't perfect and sometimes it has issues outside your control.

People sign up for these things and then upset they get postings--I do dnot understand it.

I joined a group at Yahoo! Groups once and sent an email introducing myself to the group as asked. I got a bunch of emails saying, "Quit sending me emails!"

I had never sent any of these people an email, I sent it to a group we all belonged to and because they had joined the group, they got a copy.

Well the joy of the world wide web is to be able to reach the people that you might have never been able to.  If you play the law of averages game you will see that for the 10 that didnt want your flyer there was one that would have never gottin it and called you for your services.  People get irritated to easily. Always have an opt out on what is sent out- with that and combined that you actually opt them out if they want out -- there should be little problems.

Hey Mike - I'm perhaps one of the few agents that enjoys the e-flyers!

Why? -

#1 - I used to get about 3 dozen paper flyers each week. This e-flyer business is earth-friendly!

#2 - I'm not checking the MLS in the neighborhoods where I do not have current buyers. But the e-flyers remind me of market activity in those neighborhoods; they keep me "informed".

Sometimes, I delete them before opening them. But they're never a bother. I'd say, keep sending 'em!

Did these individuals agents you e-mailed receive more than two flyers in that 4-hour period? If it was a catastrophic error, say 5 or more duplicate e-mails, then you needed to know about it, but no reason for someone to give you a hard time about it. Don't we all need to just get along?

Hey Pat, the company I used did tell me there was something wrong with their server and that it would not happen again. One Realtor told me he received about 50 emails..
