THREE CHEERS FOR A REAL AMERICAN HERO

Chesley Sullenberger III

According to current reports, Mr Sellenberger, a pilot for US Airways, successfully landed his crippled jet on the Hudson River in New York after both engines were damaged from hitting a huge flock of birds (possibly geese).

As I sit here watching this story unfold, I can't help but think to myself, if ever I have to fly, I want a pilot just like him.  His cool, calm thinking combined with his experience, has saved the lives of at least 150 people.

My hat goes off to a true Hero!

Amen.  I agree.  Bob, the older I get the less I like to fly.  I am glad to see stories like this where the pilot did a great thing.

Audrey, As I sat glued to the TV, all I kept thinking was "This is a miracle".  No doubt in my mind.

That's for sure! Awesome, just like the movies. It's usually stories about drunk pilots and this and that. This guy deserves a medal.

Hi Bob, I agree, I want that crew on all my flights! A terrific, professional, amazing job!  I also was so impressed by all the people on the river, who were right there to help. Incredible, just wonderfully incredible! I love happy endings.

Bob, Captain Sullenberger is a true hero. I have great admiration for him. I am happy to hear that there are pilots with his qualifications and talent flying us. As I write this, there are reports on late TV, that after this miraculous and skillful landing, he was the last one off the plane; after walking to the end of the plane twice to make sure that there were no passengers left behind. True dedication, true hero! Great story!

Not more I can about the great pilot and his crew...they all did what they were trained to do and learned how to respond in case of a true emergency, hats off to them. I hope the airlines are still hiring highly experienced guys/women like these, military backgrounds. Hopefully someone can return the favor to each of them some day somehow! Thanks for including this in your blog! Andrea

As much as it was shocking to see a plane like that in a river it was so encouraging that not a single life was lost.  There is no doubt that without the experience and calm but quick thinking of the pilot the outcome could have been much different.  Take care and happy blogging!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for taking the time to post this one. Truly, the entire crew are hero's! I was so relieved when I saw all the crew and pass angers on the wind of that fallen plane being rescued.

Way to go, posting this tribute to a true American hero.  How fortunate those passengers wereto have had a pilot with the wisdom that only comes from years of experience.

Bob, I have seen snippets of this on the news, Although I never got the full story. I hear that what you say is true. It is amazing that there were not fatalities...
