STAGING TIP, No. 11,570 - "The Crap Trap":

Kitchens, especially when they open up to a garage or carport, seem to be a common catch-all zone for keys, mail, receipts, medications, and even entire stacks of phone books.

When suggesting to our clientele for this area be cleared of life's debris, we often encounter resistance, as if there is no way to re-train family members to relocate the accumulation of items associated with the kitchen counter.

Our remedy is swift and cheap, often to be found at your nearest Thrift Store. Why anyone would not see the beauty in these incredible devices is beyond me. We have an arsenal of them, in many shapes, colors, and sizes.

 CRAP TRAPS

Beautiful Breadboxes

Try 'em. You'll wonder how you ever got along without them!

Michelle, I was just considering this conundrum today.  What a clever solution.  It will be on my list to get one.  Thanks!

Don't baskets work the same way? LOL. These do look a bit more appealing but never knew they were called crap traps, clever.

Heather - Girl, get five! Thanks for commenting. :)

Cathy - I collect them, I have them EVERYWHERE! I even have one in my bathroom.

Jonathan - You are welcome!

Phyllis - Yes, but I try to throw away every basket that finds it's way into my house. I hate to dust, and they are magnets, for whatever reason.  Thanks for commenting! :)

Hi Pangaea,

"Appliance Garage" is just too upper-crust for us! We have LOTS of sayings that just aren't ready for prime time.

I had an ex-husband who used to make jokes about the baskets I had in every room. Seemed perfect to me - throw the crap in and then I still felt like I had a clean house. I never thought of calling them "Crap traps" - maybe he would have liked them better if I had.

LOL, Tori Lynn.

I love my Crap Traps. I love anything that serves as hidden storage, though. Coffee tables that double as storage, ottomans that double as storage, u name it. f you can stick stuff in it as well as on it...well, I'll take two, please!

Michelle...every room must have one where I live, that's for sure .  I love the name..crap trap.  I wonder how many of my clients would object to that terminology since some have objected to "stuff".  OK, I'll be cautious.

My's husbands entire office is a crap trap and that's no kidding, so I stay out of there unless it's absolutely necessary.

FUN and useful!

You had me looking at your post with that title!  I think this is a counter top version of "the junk drawer",but prettier.

Love it Michelle, a crap trap is a must for every home including my own!

With 4 kids and the business it gets p r e t t y scary round here.

One question though....just how much crap do you think one of those things will hold?

HI Michelle, those are an ideal solution. I picked my first one up today off the side of the curb. The people were moving and were giving it away. Your post inspired me to stop and add it to my staging inventory. Being a virgo, I don't have these in my life but I can see what you mean by families needing a way to "trap their crap"!  Too funny, I love how you come up with these titles! :)

Ginger - Thanks for commenting! I think I will put on in my office... good idea!

Diana - Buyers will look in a drawer!  I can't see buyers opening a bread box. Well, unless they are hungry... :)

Ana - STACK THEM! Find a cute style that works, and buy three! You can even assign them, like kindergarten cubbies! I have wrought iron baker's rack right by my back door leading to the carport. I actually have a collection of these on it, as well as other box-type thingy-deals. Looks like a neat, tidy collection. And it hides a LOT of crap.

Michelle - We have a word for what you did. We call it shopping at "Gar-Mart" (short for garbage mart). We love the prices at Gar-Mart! I should write a blog about all our Gar-Mart finds.

Thanks for the Inspiration!

Hi Michelle,

I had to laugh when I opened up your post. When I first looked at it I thought it said Crab Traps. I guess I need to wear my reading glasses for computer work too.

I have a ton of crap traps too. I don't know how people live without them.

I usually recommend a box on the counter, but never had a name for it...love your name, crap trap!  Mine have a hole drilled in the back so cell phones can be stored and the charger cord can be plugged in to the wall.  I'll do a post and include some photos.

Michelle, great name, I think with my less uptight clients I might even start using this name - everyone can relate and immediately get it.  Plus I am going to take Sharon's idea and drill some holes in some of the ones I use for staging.  I collect boxes and in my own home they tend to be kind of unique, I am going to have to really think about drilling the holes in my home ones... don't know if I can bite the bullet on that.  But I think I will drill some holes in the bottom of the staging ones - that way if I use them where you can see the back it won't be a problem.  Thank you both (I actually got to your post from Sharon's that referred to yours)

Michelle - Love these 'crap traps'!  Especially the antique bread bins.  Bet they'd look great on a counter, and everyone is happy - the owner is able to keep all their crap stuff, and you can leave the house knowing all the stuff has been tucked away.  Thanks for the great idea.
