Using Facebook and ActiveRain Together

We’ve all heard the expression “no man is an island” Well, no social network should be an island either! The secret to success with online marketing is making all the different pieces “play nicely” with each other. Over the last few days we’ve been doing a series on Facebook (Links: The Basics of Facebook and Getting the Most Out of Facebook). This article will be going over how you can cross promote your Facebook and Activerain profiles in some unique ways.

Add your Activerain blog posts to your Facebook profile automatically

Facebook allows you to add the posts from any blog (including those on activerain) to your Facebook profile, which is a great way to get your activerain blog noticed. To do this, first install this Facebook app: http://www.Facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=5315590686. Follow the instructions of the application and enter your “rss feed” url which is http://activerain.com/blogs/username/rss (changing username to your activerain username) and every time you post something on Activerain, it will get posted automatically on your Facebook profile!

Put a “Share this on Facebook” button on your Activerain blog

Facebook created a system where any webpage can be “shared” through your public timeline on Facebook. To see what I mean, take a look at my sidebar under the RealSpace Tours banner is a “Share This on Facebook” link. When it’s clicked, it brings up a box that allows others to automatically post my blog to their Facebook timeline.

UPDATE: Activerain has since disallowed javascript and this no longer works :(

Link Your Facebook Profile from Activerain & Vice Versa

It almost goes without saying that the most important thing you can do is make sure you have a link and description to your Facebook profile under each Activerain blog post as well as on your Activerain profile page. You should also have a link to your Activerain blog from your Facebook profile.

Join the ActiveRain Facebook Group

We’ve already discussed how you can create a group and fan page for yourself (see here), but joining other groups can be valuable as well. You can interact with other members and grow your friend base. Activerain members even have a group on Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/group.php?gid=2707000332 – joining this group gives you access to over 1,000 Activerain & Facebook users. What better way to cross promote your profiles?

I'm going to the OCAR board to learn about this very thing today at 10....It's free! I'm guessing you already know how to do this, but I'm excited to see what ideas they have.

Facebook connection has led to a contract on my personal property and and possible listing. Maximum exposure works for me.

Frank - That's what it's all about. Unless we're using social media to deliver results, it's a waste of time, but when we see that it's actually helping the bottom line, it all becomes worth it!

I've been on activerain for some time, but I'm new to Facebook after finally caving in to pressure from my fellow agents in the office...This post looks quite helpful and I'm going to give it a try over the weekend...Thanks for the info.

Andrew thanks so much for something I was just wondering about. One can also link their blogspot to facebook. I just read that. This weekend will definitely be a great time to figure some more of this tech stuff out.

For some reason my blog will only post to Members only or Draft- there is now public feature so I cannot link my blog to my Facebook. Is there something I need to activate to make my blog public?
