What is it about listening that is so important??  So many times, we feel like we "know" what the client wants or needs...do we really LISTEN??  How great would it be to stay focused on the client during that initial consultation, to find out what they want to spend, what area do they want to live in, what architectual style, etc...  Instead, so many times our brains are working hard to put the words together before the other person ever stops talking...has this happened to you??

One of the things that I LOVE to do is take notes when meeting with someone (with their permission, of course).  That really shows that I am paying attention to what the other person is saying and that I CARE what they are saying.  This helps in every industry...whether you are working with the public or just trying to understand what your boss is saying!!!

 Pretty simple, eh??

Everyone seems to want to be an alligator, all mouth, no ears.

Notes are great.  A listening technique is to repeat  the last word or words....that they are saying.. in your mind.  You focus on what they are saying and not thinking of what to say next.

I believe if you take the time to take notes that you will become a better listner.  Anytime you write something down, you remember it so much better.

Good listeners are focused ,they do not interrupt the the person speaking until the speaker is finished, it takes a lot of displine and skills to become a good listener.

Paul, You are so right!!  Not interrupting is something I have to consciously think about...always have something to say!  My family says I could talk to a wall!!  ;)
