Plenty of good comments and emails to my blog on "My Fearless Career Move Predictions"

If you haven't read this blog please do.

Some agreed with my thoughts...  Some did not.  That's what blogs are all about.

Li Reid, one of my regular readers seemed to think "entrepreneurship" was the way to go.   I quite agree.  There are many new niche markets opening up for entrepreneurs with good ideas.

Sonny Kwan suggested that.."Any job is secure, it's what you make of it.  How hard you work at your job dictates how long you survive."

I disagreed with Sonny's statement and advised him to say that directly to the more than 2-million hardworking, intelligent Americans who have lost their job in the past two years through no fault of their own.   Tell that to 30,000 Circuit City employees who are about to be turfed onto the street.

Life is always easier for those on the inside looking out, than it is for those on the outside looking in.  If you're one of the 11-Million Americans looking for work you may be feeling bitter....even angry that this has happened to you.   We often take losing a job personally, even though it's happening to volumes people everyday.....even as I type.

You can try to save your job by sending a challenge back to your employer.   Ask him/her..."WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE TO KEEP MY JOB??"    "IS THERE SOMEPLACE ELSE IN THE COMPANY WHERE I CAN FIT IN?"   It may be a cut in pay....an upgrade of skills...or some other incentive you can offer your cash strapped company to keep you on the payroll.

If job loss is unavoidable it brings with it a golden opportunity to prepare for a new career.    There's a wide open field to choose from....but just be sure there's a demand for the type of career you wish to become involved with.

My heart is with those 11-Million Americans who are looking for work and are in a real cash crunch.    Unemployment is nothing to take lightly....just ask your neighbor who's wondering how to feed his family or pay his mortgage.   Please read my previous blog.    It may help in starting off on the right foot.   Stay positive and prepare.

IF YOU HAVEN'T SUBSCRIBED TO MY BLOG AS YET, PLEASE DO SO JUST ABOVE MY PHOTO.

Thanks.  Sincerely, David

It's tough out there today. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any easy answers.

All the best!

Hi David, Yes it is important to realize that a good number of those unemplyed right now did everything they could to help the company's success, and their company went out of business or had to cut way back anyway.  There are many homeless families right now and few jobs for them to get, so entrepreneurship may be all that is available to some, but many people aren't suited to entrepreneurship.  They are smart and clever enough, but they have no experience in being self-motivated or in time management or the other skills necessary to succeed.  Those skills take practice and some never get very good at them.
