LONG DISTANCE STAGING - OR - How to Stage Your Cousin's Home in N Carolina When You Live in Oregon

I have just had an amazing trip back to the East Coast, visiting family in both Maryland and N Carolina. I also believe that I may have "staged it forward" by passing a Staging lead to an associate across the country! Here's the REST OF THE STORY!

cousin and her husband

My cousin and her husband Charlie, who live in Monroe NC, flew me out on their frequent flyer miles to help them begin what will be a year long task of preparing their @7,000 square foot home for sale. They will be moving to Maryland and downsizing to @2,500 square feet.

One of the things I found quite different about the East Coast was the amount of brick homes I saw. Evidently you folks don't have the earthquakes that we here in the West experience.

As the pictures show, there is an overabundance of furnishings that have graced this large home for several years. Sorting through the memories, collections and precious belongings is going to be a daunting task.

There was only so much I could do on my 5 day visit with regard to the "pre-staging" process. I had been talking with my cousin about credentialed Stagers, NAPO (professional organizers) CRTS (senior relocation specialists), etc and decided to go online to my Staging training company to see if we could find a qualified Stager in the Monroe/Charlotte area to help them with the process.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found someone who not only had all of the above-mentioned credentials, but had also previously been a realtor! Its times like these that make me so glad that I have a number of nationwide resources (including my Staging training company and  AR). I was confident after viewing her site that this woman was a professional who took her job seriously and would be an invaluable resource to my family members over the coming months.

Adele Mahan, a Stager from the Charlotte area, met with my cousin, Charlie, and me to view the home and discuss options for downsizing. The result was a delightful visit, which included 2-3 stager hugs between Adele and myself. Is it just me, or do all stagers feel an instant bond between one another?

Lili

Here is one more friendship that was kindled during my visit. Miss Lili II (there is a second black cat, Miss Lili I, in Maryland). Lili has two other pet companions, Miss Molly (a silky grey cat who has deemed herself my cousin's "nurse"), and Max, a very old black lab who is deeply devoted to Charlie. My apologies to the latter two awesome pets for not taking their pictures - what was I thinking???

I left Monroe feeling that my East Coast family would be in great hands and that Adele's resources would provide them with everything they need to accomplish all of the tasks before them in this coming year. I'll hope to go out again early next year for the final Staging process - you know - the FUN part!

Janis ~ What a great outcome you had looking for someone to help your cousin and his family during their transition!  It looks like a very lovely home and your fellow stager will no doubt be such a big help to them throughout the project. I'll look forward to seeing the Before & Afters once you're back there again for the final finishing touches.

I am also grateful that I can look online and refer people to other ASP's with confidence when I get a request for staging too far away for me. It's great to know that they've had the same training, and to feel confident the people you are referring will be taken care of.

I am the out of town stager and let me tell you Jan is the sweetest stager I have ever met. I am so excited about working with her cousins, they are almost as sweet as her! Their home has many beautiful highlights with fabulous antiques....I can't wait myself to see the after pictures! Will be sure to take many along the way as we go through this delicate task of downsizing. Looking forward to finding wonderful homes for all their special things. Thanks Jan for using your creative talents to start this blog. Keep you all posted!! Go ASP!
