Now that the federal income tax day is past, just about everyone wants to forget about taxes for another year. But wait just a minute! You could be eligible for the Minnesota Property Tax Refund and Minnesota Political Campaign Refund.
For the Property Tax Refund, you need a copy of your 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ, your Property Tax Refund from the previous year (if any) and your ACTUAL property tax statement from the county. You cannot use the PROPOSED property tax information, it has to be the actual tax statement. Visit the MN Dept of Revenue for online PDF files that you can fill out, print, and mail. The M1PR is the name of the form you need.
The Political Campaign Refund will pay you up to $50 per person ($100 per married couple) per year if you donate to a political candidate or party in Minnesota (not federal level offices). It doesn't matter if it is an election year or not. It's a great way to support democracy! All you need is a receipt from the candidate or party and the form, called the PCR - Political Campaign Refund For more information on the program you can visit the Minnesota Dept of Revenue PCR website To find out who represents you in St. Paul, visit the Minnesota State Legislature
