Will 2009 be the year that real estate agents stop advertising in the printed media? Does print advertising even work anymore?  Our Sellers still like to see their homes in the newspaper and in the magazines - But is anyone looking? And if they are - is it only because they don't have access to a computer? Is the day rapidly approaching that all printed advertising will fade away? It seems like every time you get on the internet there is a new internet service available to advertise you listings and so many of them are really good! What are your thoughts?

Sandy,

I agree with you on print ads...where are they going?  I think by the wayside.  Approximately 1 year ago, our company made the decision to break away from the local news-paper.  The paper had made an agreement with our Association about 16 years ago to publish a local real estate booklet.  As the internet has evolved into the preferred communication and source of information, we have seen a sharp decline in the re booklet's usefulness.  The results of print advertising just cannot justify the high cost, therefore, we decided that using that part of our advertising budget toward what really works is the best business decision for us.  So, we have lead our local market with eliminating the print ads and doing more with the internet.  The only print ad we run now is with Homes and Land and that is only because we have an internet presence that comes with that.  Some agents can't see the forest for the trees, but maybe they will come around...when newspaper companies discontinue their printed papers and go internet only as well.

I don't understand why anyone, whether they are an agent or whatever business they are in would continue advertising in a media that has stopped producing results.

Frankly I am glad it is gone. It was expensive and time consuming.

I think the buying public want the information at their finger tips not in a wet plastic bag in the front yard
