Hi,

I'm @ARDELLd on Twitter.

The number one thing I see many doing incorrectly on Twitter is hitting "reply" to a person, but not on the "correct" comment stream.

Remember that many, many people using social media are watching vs. talking. When your followers see a reply from you to someone else, they will click on the "reply to" to follow the conversation/thread all the way back to the beginning.

It is sufficient for you to reply to ANY Tweet, if your only objective is to reach the person you are talking to.  BUT if you reply to that person using the Tweet you are referencing, it will be much easier for the person AND others reading and watching, to follow along with the whole thread of the conversation.

Test your outgoing replies and see if what you are answering relates to the message referenced at the end of your Tweet.  At least 35% of the time, it does not.

Hi Ardell - just saw your tweet on this, and it's great suggestion.  Often I see tweets that don't seem to make sense because they don't reference anything at all.  I try to do just as you wrote, but I'm sure there are times when I don't.

What's the best way to reference that... I tend to simply reply to their tweet from within their tweet - is that what you recommend?  Seems better than just tweeting anew.

@ARDELLd I hadn't thought about this, good catch, I better go check it out. Do you mean "retweeting" a tweet reply? I know I have gotten lost on some comment streams as well.

Ann,

The first Tweet in the thread will not have a reference...after that they should string together.

Ira,

A lot of people just reply to the correct person...but from a completely different Tweet.  It's not email :)

If you hit the arrow reply...make sure you are replying to the Tweet you are referring to, not just the right person.

@ARDELLd do you mean to for people to use the hastag for the thread?  Thx

Audrey,

People are overdoing the #tags.  They are great for events like #icny.  But overused makes you look like you think your are "exclusive" and it's a turnoff.

Ira,

Why aren't you hyperlinked in your comment here?

That was driving me crazy on twitter to see what appeared to be random answers to questions flowing down the screen.  It was too much so I signed off.

Wish you were around here more!

"Why aren't you hyperlinked in your comment here?"

Ah.. the advantage of being a newbie is that I can say that I don't know what that means, and people will help me.

Maybe this is why I hardly Twit.  LOL  I must admit I haven't gotten the hang of all the ins and outs of all the social media sites.  My kids were laughing at my cousin's comments on FaceBook because apparently, she's  "doing it wrong."  I'm going to have to spend some time getting to know it all.  Thanks for the lesson!

Hi Sonny,

You grab my attention fairly often.  You are obviously trying hard here, there and everywhere.  You just don't seem to have your focus in the right place.  Like someone who is splashing paint on 12 canvasses and never paints a picture.  Last I looked, anyway.

Are you going to REBarCamp at Zillow in Feb?  It's free.  Maybe we can chat there.

Ira,

Look at everyone else's comment.  I can click on their name and go to their profile page and AR Blog.  Yours is "black" and goes nowhere.  Notice yours is the ONLY one that way.  You may want to contact the AR staff and find out why that is.  If you weren't logged in at all, I don't think your name would show.

I am seeing so much about twitter that I guess it is something I need to look into. I seem pretty busy online already.

Steven,

It's a better way to connect with consumers direct, I think.  Not wure for your area vs. mine.
