MOTOVATIONAL MONDAYS: What Motivates You?

By
Real Estate Agent with Long and Foster BEL AIR MARYLAND

We are all driven by different emotions, desires, drives. In real estate and in life we vary in what will inspire and motivate us. I think we have some common grounds in that we all respond well to praise. We will be inspired to work harder and sell more if the manger congratulates us on a job well done instead of berating us when we do not perform.

When raising my kids I know that praising them for doing something right was a much more powerful motivator than scolding them when they did wrong.

Also, we tend to fear loss. The fear of loss is a greater motivator than the anticipation of gain. In real estate people will want a house more urgently if they know others are interested in it also. They fear losing it and want it more.

Praise and affirmation do wonders for my spirit and boost my morale....what about you?

harford county maryland real estate foreclosure reo christian agent

I have lived in Maryland all my life and been an active real estate professional for the last 20 years. I have worked with numerous foreclosures, short sales, pre foreclosures, HUD homes and bank owned properties.

If you have a home to sell in Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Harford County or Cecil County call an agent that knows the area and works hard to make you a satisfied client. I specialize in Bel Air, Abingdon, Aberdeen, Forest Hill, Perry Hall, North East, Kingsville and the entire I95 corridor. For 20 years I have helped people buy and sell real estate and specialized in REO and foreclosure properties for investors and homeowners.

When I am not helping my clients with their real estate needs I enjoy spending time with my family and my Pomeranian Zeke, bible study, gardening and foreign mission work. In 2007 I founded Micah Missions a non-profit company designed to raise awareness and funds to assist the struggling Haitian refuges in the Dominican Republic.

You are so right about the children thing. While raising my children, positive always worked much better than negative!!

As for what I like, I am no different than most. Please tell me when I do something well. Do not wait to tell me when I make a mistake.

Happy Monday!!

In business I'm especially motivated to help people with low income become homeowners through programs like USDA Rural Development.  It  is very rewarding.

I've always relied on positive reinforcement with my employees as well as in my own life. I learned positive reinforcement from my wise old grandmother. She was about 90% positive and 10% good ol' fashioned discipline with an oleander switch when positive reinforcement failed.

I liked your comments on fear of loss.  I rarely do open houses. Some I have done where I create excitement for a unique property and get lots of people coming thru.   The "fear of loss" factor kicks in.  It spurs people to make quick offers to keep from losing a unique home.
