I thought it would be a good time to share what happens above the surface of Lake Washington now that I have shared with you what is found below.
Hydroplane races are not new to Lake Washington. They have been going on for decades. In fact my Uncle, Dale Burnison had one that he loved to race, and it was easy to spot because it was PINK. Do not ask me why, he has always had a way of standing out. But Dale is not the point of this post.
Hydroplane racing has been around in Seattle since 1929.For years there were races on Green Lake, but now it is enjoyed during SeaFair on Lake Washington. Hydroplanes have made their home here since the 50's, and became very popular in the 60's. Now it is a large part of Seafair every summer, along with the Blue Angels, and the air show.
I remember living in Seattle and being able to hear the boats as they raced on a hot summers day, but watching them is even better. Seattle's hydro races have come along way since they began, and now it is a must see attraction... with all that goes with it.
If you find yourself in the Seattle area this summer take the opportunity to stay for Seafair weekend, and enjoy the Torchlight Parade complete with rowdy pirates, Queens, and local celebrities. Then check out the Hydro's racing, Blue Angels flying and the Milkcarton Derby. There is something for everyone, so come and experience the Washington we all know and love!
