Are you one click above?

The idea behind the terminology "one click above" is that you make a conscious effort to go above and beyond what others are doing or what is expected of you. It may be the service you provide, your attitude, your work ethic or even how you dress.

Most people, quite honestly, will do what is required of them, but will not go above and beyond to do an exceptional job. Why do extra work if you can get away with doing so much less?

How do you know if you are "one click above?"

In some professions, you might receive written testimonials from your clients. In other professions, you might hear words like this spoken by your clients, boss, friends or colleagues:

...it doesn't necessarily require an extended relationship to recognize a superior professional...

...working with you has been an absolute pleasure...

...it was truly a pleasure to work with you...you were always very professional, knowledgeable...

...without your "above and beyond the call of duty" help our transition would not have been nearly as smooth as it has been...

...thank you not only for a job well done but for making me feel well cared for...

...tireless effort and upbeat attitude...

...from the get-go we felt very confident that you were the right choice for us...

...from beginning to end she made us feel like we were her only client...

...absolutely amazing

...it was a great pleasure to work with you...

...we feel so thankful to have found you and will recommend your services to anyone...

...we never had to worry if things were moving along or being taken care of...

...her professionalism, knowledge and attention to detail were very reassuring...

...I am confident that the process went so smoothly because of you...

...my highest recommendation...

Do you stand out in the crowd? Do you go all out in the effort you give to a project or task? Do you provide a product or service that is exceptional and different from what is expected? Do you have raving fans?

What do you do that makes you "one click above" the rest? Can you give examples of yourself or other businesses or service providers that are consistently "one click above" everyone else?

I think we all like to think we are a cut above the rest!  I don't know how many really are!

Those sentences all have a theme...the realtor's main focus was the well being of the client.    That's the bottom line, every time, and it adds up to superior service.    Personalized service.

Thanks for writing,

I think it's an interesting question Kelly. So many of the responses could be cliches;

I'm sincere, have integrity, am a hard worker, am very caring, experienced....

But if agents could cut this down to the nitty gritty of what makes them different from the rest, they would have much more confidence.

In a nutshell, one of the things which sets me apart from other agents in my market is that I can honestly say I know the market; stats, pricing, inventory, activity and trends better than anyone. Hands down!

Thanks for a thought provoking question.

TAMI: I know some who are...and some who aren't! But you're right, both tend to think they are! :)

LI: Absolutely!

KEN: Any examples?

COLLEEN: That is definitely one click above!! It totally sets you apart from the rest of the pack!

Kelly,  I feel I am a  realtor that is one click above.  For my buyers, I want to get them the best home in their budget, and for my sellers I want to get the best price for their homes.  In both cases, I strive to be very responsive to my clients and other professionals.

Kelly

Great Post.  I think a great measuring tool is what percentage of your business is referrals or past clients.  If you not doing an excellent job, you will not get repeat and referral business.

NEAL: Great!

JUDY: And you KNOW I would refer business to you, my friend! :)

JULIE ANNE: Absolutely. If much of your business is repeat or referral, you definitely know that you are on the right track!

Hi Kelly, those are a great list to have clients say...it is even better when they say them to your future clients!  Nice post.

It would be nice to believe that all agents are attracted to this profession by their passion to help others and an undying work ethic that has outgrown the 9-5 corporate existance, but we know that isn't always (or even usually) the case.  Unfortunately, many are drawn by the allure of the expected big, fast money.  The big score types will do most anything to avoid a hard day's work on the potential of business alone.  Almost as if bracing for the unlikeliness of success, they put out even barer than bare minimal effort.  I'm guessing they don't collect the fan mail you so aptly describe above, Kelly.

GARY: Yep!

PAUL: One of the things that disappointed me the most when I was an agent was that the most outwardly successful (money earning) agents were not usually one click above, nor were they the hardest working or even the most ethical. Disturbing to say the least.
