The journalists who write all the negative news in the real estate market are doing a disservice to those who are interested in buying real estate today. It is a classic case of misinformation leading the way. While the national real estate market is important, all real estate is local, and the local real estate market in the Philadelphia area and suburbs is very healthy; however, it will be a cold day in you know where before you'll see that headline anywhere. While there is an increase in the number of properties available for sale, homes are still selling and still appreciating. Also, buyers have an opportunity to negotiate - an opportunity that was denied them over the past few sellers' market years. With interest rates still historically low and plenty of homes to see, buyers should be out in droves. However, what do we read? The news is all about subprime mortgages. In truth, this is a very small part of the mortgage business; however it does get good press because it's more bad news.

I also feel that the media are usually behind the market in reporting what is really going on. They will report on the market turn 3 months after it occurred.
