Shopping has changed a lot over the last several years. When I was growing up, you could call a florist on the week of Valentines and place an order for a dozen roses and have them show up at the right place without any concerns. When it came time for Christmas, you would go the week before and get all the gifts that you needed within a couple of hours without having any hassles. Today, this has all changed.

For many people, shopping for Valentines is a month long chore. The reason being is a simple one really. You just do not want to be the one that forgot to get your someone special flowers for valentines. Personally, I cannot blame you. I really do not like sleeping with nature, so I am right there with you. Over the years though, Valentines has evolved. It seems that people have gotten away from giving red, white, yellow, or even pink roses. I guess that is where I get confused.

So many times, I see people unloading their wallets on a bracelet, a ring, or some other type of jewelry. With that type of Valentine present, it is no wonder people expect more when birthdays or Christmas rolls around. Personally for me, I choose to stay with the more traditional route and get the flowers. It might not be the gift that keeps on giving, but it is the thought that counts. Well, at least that was what it was once all about.

It IS the thought that counts.  My husband knows I prefer daisies over roses, so he always brings home daisies.  They aren't expensive, they aren't flashy - but a long time ago he listened when I said I prefer them and that means a lot.

Dear Danny,

I agree with you 100%. The gift of flowers lifts ones spirit. They may not last a lifetime like jewelery, but the memory of them DOES. As a wife of 14 years, I love getting roses or orchids for Valentines Day. They don't have to come from the most expensive florist in town, because I know he loves me every day. The no occasion flowers are nice too. What girl could turn down flowers from her beaux? NONE! Happy early Valentines!

Carol, and listening is half the battle.

Betina, I have yet to meet a person that does not like flowers. Well, except for the ones that are allergic to them.
