I don't know about the rest of the you, but since Barack Obama was elected President on Nov 4th, it seems, that I've been waiting an ETERNITY, for him to take over the Oval Office.  It seemed that from Nov 4th to Jan 20th, time stood still.  Nothing really got down in the White House!

I love President Barak Obama's comment:  "We must pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off!"   That statement alone gives our people the motivation to start over and begin a new cycle....

This country needed a president with a driven personality, who could bring our divided country back together in a cultural way and give our country and the world a sense of relief!  That sense of relief was a given, due to his intellectual abilities to get things done!

Watching the historical 2 million people RECORD crowd in the Capital, you could see people coming together from all religious denominations, races, cultures and genders.  People were talking to people next to them, without a worry in the world.  It projected a sense of hope for the American people and the world watching history being made.  Hopefully all the politicians in Capital Hill noticed that people are ready for a CHANGE!!

I hope the Senate and the House of Representatives work with Barack Obama and his team of experts to get our country's respect back into a positive light with the rest of the world.  He will need all the help he can get and hopefully all the senators and representatives will leave partisan aside to get our country back on the right track....

Let's leave "old ways" behind and look to the future of our country's best interest!!!

Good Luck Barack!!!

Hi Anne Marie,

He's a breath of fresh air.  I think the shifts and changes in focus, in rhetoric, in so many things are going to be dramatic. Long day coming for sure. Wasn't the sight of all the flags waving in the audience something else? And I do think that the new year and the new administration are going to go a long ways towards improving the national mood. And from a real estate perspective, optimism is what the doctor ordered that's for sure. And thanks for including that picture of the new President - I just love his smile.

It will take time, but he's got the intelligence to do the job!!

Hi REV,

It will begin getting the respect we all lost from the last administration.  We will need to pull together as a nation to get that respect back.

Hi Chris & Maria,

I believe that showing the world that we are now respecting ourselves as a nation, will bring respect back to our country from other nations and their people.  We can't "bully" other countries and then demand respect....

Anne-Marie, ecstatic is the word here!  Everything about today was awesome!  I totally knew someone would comment on the flub he made today.  Nevermind.  He's articulate and smart, I'm quite sure he was nervous, as any of us would be if we had legally won the election.  Negative comments about Obama are exactly what we would expect of the sour grapes sore loser crowd.  BTW, we finally have someone to lead us.  The past two months have been like living in limbo, no one was in charge.  When was the last time you remember a leaving president just give up before inauguration day?  Nothing unexpected there!  woo hoo, there is dancing in the streets all over the world today!

Have to laugh in regards to your comment about nothing happening in the white house from Nov 4th until today...Actually allot happened, some of it may help you keep your job Ann-Marie.

Though I understand your post as an attempt to express your gratitude and excitement of this historical day, the fact is that Barrack Obama isn't any more intelligent then a number of presidents that have uttered the oath of office.  In fact I probably wouldn't put him in the top 25 at this time.  I've heard the guy off the tele-promter and he's as bad as the last president off the cuff.

Obama's strength is his rock star ability in communicating with the masses.  I will admit that his star is bright right now, but 3 months from now can he keep its luster.  There are some real tough days coming down the pike in America.  I hope he's more then a nice smile and message, there needs to be some steel as well behind this put together politician.  Obama may pull it off and if he does I'll be cheering him at that time.  But at this point he's just another face with another campaign slogan.  Time will tell what kind of president he's going to be.

My question is how bad will be the let down when the Messiah's followers realize he's truly only human like every other president.

I have to admit that some of my conservative friends were okay today, some were outright mean!!  The compassionate conservatives will come back, hopefully, when our country gets back to its true business with the rest of the world.

Hi Terry,

I agree 100%, someone has finally arrived to LEAD US AGAIN!!  The last two months have been very eye-opening even to our conservative friends who were pulling for Bush.  I believe they were STUNNED at how Bush was handling himself,  that's why some of them fired back today.  Hopefully, they keep their minds open to new ways of thinking and working our business and country's communities.  Time will only tell, if they do....

Hi Karl,

I don't agree with you.  Obama has a very high IQ, something Bush was seriously lacking.  Facts don't lie!!!  When an elected president has a high IQ they usually pick intelligent leaders for their Oval Office.  They usually can reason better and have better intuition and delegate effectively.

Nothing really occurred since Nov 4th.  Homeowners are still losing their homes left and right.  Large companies are still laying off their employees.   The banks are getting richer & greedier than ever, even though the financial bailout was supposed to help get the U.S. financial markets back on level ground, by supplying funds with loans to "the people of the U.S."  So unless I'm blind, which at this age it's not to far, I didn't see anything happening!!

As far as anyone helping me keep my job, you should look at my profile, I'm an American who moved to Canada due to Bush's economic policies.  So I was a displaced American, Thank you!

I agree that he has a rock star quality, that's probably because we haven't had a leader for 8 years.  Our country is bordering at a state of bankruptsy.   Many, many, many Americans left this fine country, due to job displacement.  Where did they go? India, China, Russia, Australia, Italy, France, Mexico and Canada.  So how do you see them holding on to their American homes???

Let's really give this president a chance to prove himself.  Conservatism put us in this crazy place and moderate thinking will take us out!!

Hi Stephanie,

I'm a former American (if you want to call me that) that still votes and cares for her original country and wants to see it survive it's economic disaster.  Conservatives don't want to change and the world has changed considerably since Bush had taken office.  The biggest mistake I saw is that the Conservative right voted him back in even though they didn't like him.  ;>)

Hi Tana,

Once again, I'm still American and can vote on the national issues, with "Absentee Ballots" in fact, many military personell and other Americans living abroad, that still care about their former country and its inhabitants.  You never give that up, even when you have to move out of the country for economic reasons.

So when does this great nonpartisan, change the world leadership start?  He has bungled the stimulus packaged, made a mockery of his cabinet vetting process, met with Joints Chiefs of Staff and keeping his thoughts a secret, can't poop or get off the pot on Free Trade, ordered Gitmo closed, but has no plan. I can't think of a more unproductive first two weeks in modern history.  Is there precedence for dividing your own party's Senate in the first two weeks?  I guess when you run on 'failed Bush policies' rhetoric, you become less effective when having to change those policies.  President Obama'snext step should be to send Mr. Bush an apology letter on behalf of his party for the unparalleled hate they spewed.

Hi Ann-Marie,

We are hoping out in western Canada (Edmonton, Alberta) that Obama continues to back away from a protectionist trade policy.  Our Edmonton real estate market is influenced by the oil sector and the spinoff in jobs.   From what I've read the closting of borders to trade in the 1930s is what made the Depression last so long.  Hopefully we are not going down that path again!  Great post, partisan politics aside,  the one thing I have to say is he brings hope.

Remember the numbers Bush left us didn't start souring until Pelosi and Dems took over.  The date is very specific.  She gained control and announced, 'we will not support this President'. And she didn't, she sat on Free Trade legislation that Obama now says is important.  Pelosi and Reed played partisan politics over doing the right thing for our country because they knew that if they stymied the government, a Dem would win the White House.  They were correct, since 2006 Congress has been lethargic and they got their guy into the House.

I can say without a doubt that, though Bush made some mistakes, he did what he felt was best for the country; Pelosi and Reed will never have that epitaph. They will ruin the country to win a vote.(her speech on the floor during the TARP was an embarrassment to our country)  Bush never, not once, played a political game to win votes over doing the right thing.  With what we knew at the time, I support his invasion of Iraq (as did our current Secretary of State).  I support his reaction to the unknown (an attack on our homeland) and I appreciate his commitment to keeping us safe.  If not for the hate, rhetoric and behavior of the 2006 Congress, we could have avoided much of the mess we are in.

Obama is my president and I hope he succeeds, but you can't manage what you refuse to measure, and the perceptive measurement of the Bush administration is still flawed with rhetoric. Obama is slowly realizing that, even if impassioned bloggers will not.

Hi Joe,

You have to understand who originally started the war with Iraq, Daddy Bush, where G.W. Bush just finished what his father began.  Another note to remember, we put the Iraq leader in place, and as long as he "thought" and "went with our ideology" things for the Iraqi leader were fine.  When he started to "think for himself" that's when we, as a country, decided he was a "bad man".  We seriously have to stop bullying other countries to our philosophies, especially when their citizens aren't ready to change.  We should learn from our own mistakes!  And we should first and foremost, take care of our own citizens, before we "blow" money away into another.  The Republican president and the Republican Congress began this war!  Let's really try to remember that!

Ann-Marie- "we decided he was a "bad man"????? Excuse me? I don't care who put him in power it was the moral thing to do to get him out of power. It is selfish to say we should first and foremost take care of our own citizens. It is our moral duty to help those who are in bondage.

Last Saturday although the mainstream media did not think it was  a great deal- was a marvelous and important day in the world for Women!  4500 women in Iraq voted for the first time! Our soldiers died so that they could have that right.

How quickly everyone forgets. I bet you are a human rights activist too. Amazing how the human rights activists who now say we should not be in Iraq are contradicting their very own convictions!

Why don't you tell that to the families when Sadam was putting fathers through paper shredders while he made their wives and children watch the blood splurt all over them! Or how about Sadam's son choosing whatever 12 year old virgins he wanted and made them go to his house so he could turn them into his sex slaves. Or how about the genocide of nearly a whole tribe of people! If that is not a "bad man"- I don't know what would be. I suppose you don't think we should have invaded Germany and hunt the Nazis down either. It is our moral duty to save people from the likes of these horrific men.

I hope President Obama stands up to Nancy Pelosi. That is his only chance to make this work. He is moving to the center. His approval rating is already dropping but that is not his fault. It is the inept, stupid, selfish, corrupt congress and house that is at fault. Neither Bush nor Obama can tame these politicians that all need to be given their walking papers.

The media made President Obama out to be above all men, their messiah, their God. They unfairly set him up because now he can only let people down because no one can live up to that kind of image. He is a mere man, a human just like me and everyone else in the world. He is not a dictator. He is a president and for all those who don't remember who is really in power in a republic need to go back to high school and take US government. Katerina

I honestly can't tell if some of you are being serious or not. Are you really this excited. It is scary, really, that anyone has so much faith in on man. It is a funny thing how so many of you are willing to give up your hope to a man you don't know.

As a Jew, I often have wondered how a man like Hitler came to power. The people really liked him and put him there. He wasn't always the monster that we know him to be. So anyhow, someone said that when he spoke he had a way of making the crowd let go of their common sense and embrace his words. He was a very charismatic, intelligent, and vibrant speaker.

I am not comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler!

I am comparing most Americans today to most Germans of the early 20th Century. We are so willing to be swept up in rhetoric and saved. We are willing to set aside our common sense and our unique American distrust of power and authority for Mr. Obama. Slogans of Hope and Change have had an enormous sway over otherwise thoughtful people. I am truly scared today for what will happen to us.

When people lose sight of reality, they tend to get great advantage taken of them.

One last point I want to make.

There is still such a hatred for Bush. I understand that but unfortunately that hate and dismay clouds judgement. So many of you are so intent of pointing fingers, "Republicans this and George Bush that". Republicans can do the same. They can point to failed Democrat policies and immoral Democrat politicians. What is really the point? Is this a sporting match or is this our future.

Let's not let disdain for Bush color common sense, thoughtfullness, and decency.

Hi Katerina,  I realize he's just a moral man, but the difference between him and the "last president" is he's calm, cool and collective, and extremely smart.  Obama can admit when he's wrong and the "last president" never could admit when he was wrong.  The difference between the two also is, one EARNED his way to an Ivy League school, where the other one had "daddy" save him by 1st getting him into an Ivy League school and then keeping him there with his "C or less" grades at his Ivy League school.  Plus one president had his "governor brother" decide who would be the next president, where the other one, EARNED IT!!

We would never have been in this economic situation otherwise, if the correct president would have been sitting on the throne in the 2000 election

Basically, one had a "silver spoon" and the other EARNED his way!  All partisan & religion aside, who would you pick to be your president???

Hi Mr. Freeman of CF Escrow,

I don't know about you, but we had 8 very long years of a Republican reasoning in power, and where are we now?  That's the question I would try to answer.  Our housing has rollercoasted into the ground, our stocks are basically gone, our jobs are also depleting daily and our familes are now without any insurance policies or health.

Are we as citizens really still going through DENIAL???

Mr. Freeman, my family is here in Canada, we moved here because of "Bush economics".  We were paying $1300 a month for insurance, my job as a teacher was gone, due to States without $$$$, but we are the country that "believes" in education???  Both my spouse and myself found better jobs outside the U.S.  I have friends that have moved out of the U.S. and into India, Russia, Italy, France, England, China and Japan.   Many of the American corporations moved out of the U.S.  Now, I ask you "who were the real traitors of our country?"  I think the GREED of the U.S. corporations supplied much of the fuel to people losing their jobs, due to many of the American corporations going with their jobs overseas.  Without jobs, the housing prices start to drop, since many of them are being forclosed due to lack of payments.

I do agree, that ALL POLITICIANS, need to put their partisans aside, because we have a limited amount of time, before we sink permanently without any "life racks" available.  We, as the people of the U.S., need to get rid of many of the politicians, but for some reason, we keep re-voting them back into the Senate and House of Reps.  What does that tell me, that we are ALL GOING THRU DENIAL!!!  If we really want any change, we will have to be much more vocal and vote with our minds, instead of "something else".

Look around, 2-1/2 million jobs were lost LAST YEAR..... PERMANENTLY!!!  Things can't stay the same, or we will seize to exist!

Ann Marie,

I am well aware of the state of our country. I am also well aware that it is easy to blame the last president for our problems. I would argue that it would be better to blame the last 4 or 5 presidents. Clinton might have more to do with this than Bush. The point is that it is too much government intervention in the markets that has really made this economy crumble.

For instance, if interest rates weren't artificially kept down by The Federal Reserve we wouldn't be in this mess. If the general public did not rely on the SEC to monitor investments and instead did our own investigations into what we are putting our money into then there would be no Bernie Madof problem. If the government did not take money out of all of our checks to pay for Medicare which has ruined all healthcare then insurance costs wouldn't be so high. Our healthcare system sucks because it is already government run. Medicare is the single largest player in healthcar, they already set the bar. We already have a form of socialized medicine. That is why it is getting so bad.

When the government runs things, they screw them up, almost always. I guarantee that private industry could better utilize $1 trillion to bring the economy back than will our government. No business would inject $25 billion into anything without strict accountability, but our government did. No business would sink billions into an education system that fails to educate children, but our government does.

The Denial that you speak of is true however misplaced. We deny that our government has failed us in massive ways. We deny that we need to take repsonsibility for our own lives. We deny that power corrupts. With each new president, we set aside what we know for HOPE.

American corporations pay a higher tax rate than any other industrialized nations in the world. In the fifties and sixties when we were still a great country, we had much lower tax rates. Those counties that you and your friends have fled to, were socialist countries and therefore worse off than we were. I do not blame you for leaving now. Canada, in many ways , is freer than we are. Canada, in many ways, is more of a democracy than we, more capitalistic than we. We are a republic and capitalist in name only.

So it is poeple that put their faith in government that have brought us here today. It doesn't matter whether you call yourself a Republican or a Democrat. Barak Obama may be a good man, I don't know. It should n't matter though, because he should not be endowed with enough power for it to matter too much. Limit government, take them out of as much of our busienss as possible and we will be able to get back to the days when we were a free country, the best in the world. That is the only way out of this mess.

Hi Mr. Freeman,

We pay much more taxes individually here than I ever paid in all of the 8 states I lived in back in the U.S.  My spouse and myself both pay 45% in our taxes.   Much of the taxes goes to socialized medicine.  Canada takes care of their own people, our health insurance is not connected to our jobs.  Whether your working or unemployed, we here in Canada have unconditional health insurance.  We also pay much more for gas prices, even though, I can see the Irving Oil Refinery up on my hill from here.  We are currently paying $0.95 per liter, not per gallon.  If you go to Europe, many of the countries pay $7.00 - $12.00 a gallon.

When we originally left the U.S. we were in "Shock" with the tax structure and gas prices here in Canada, but we adjusted our lifestyles.

I think we, as U.S. citizens need to spend more time outside the U.S. (living outside, not just visiting) and see that the rest of the world has it a lot more expensive then we do.  We are always screaming bloody murder, but in reality, Europeans, Canadians, etc. pay a lot more for their food, clothing, taxes, gas, heating and other expenses, then we ever dreamt of here in the U.S.  I also, believe we need to take care of our own people, through universal health insurance (without pre-existing clauses), education systems that are superior (because as a former U.S. teacher, I can tell you, many of the schools are under depleting and deplorable conditions).  We as a country have been spoiled and need to face the reality of a global economy and market.  Let's fix what's wrong with our infrastructure that we haven't the last few decades.

We can't go back to the 1950's or 1960's because the world has changed and we have to change with it!  The U.S. has a larger population, wages went much higher than the 1950's or 1960's.  Reminiscing is okay, but the reality is our "American" corporations made the change begin way back in the late 1960's all the way til now and they won't change, because of the "bottom line" $$$$.  Cheap labor is cheap labor!!!  Either we go with the global wages or we will be left behind.  I think with the prices of housing going down, we could adjust our wages to reflect the world wages, so the jobs would come back to the U.S. We basically priced ourselve "Right Out of the World Market" probably with the unions and greediness...

Ann-Marie,

You have lived in both countries, are Canadian medical services better than US?  Not just the socialized aspect, but the level of coverage, the expertise, the availability to all provinces, the client-options.   When I have visited Canada (West Coast) I have heard of the the process of going to US for better medical.

How about education?  I know, Bush has made US education the worst in the galaxy, but are more Canadians coming to US for higher education, or the other way around?

My family loves Canada and the people there are better than anywhere else, but I wouldn't necessarily tout the country's socialist aspects as superior to ours.  The US has a lot of improvement to do and when a country is as large and complex as the US, the swings between good and bad times can be massive. But, I am not ready to jump ship on what has been the envy of the free world because we are in a dip.  (And if you believe these dips are the result or responsibility of just one man, then we probably should just agree to disagree on the entire discussion.)

Ann Marie- Neither would be my choice for President. Pres Obama is not as smart as people think he is and Pres Bush is not as stupid as people think he is. It is a fallacy to say that Pres Obama worked his own way up. He had huge money backers and the Chicago political machine behind him as he was coming up. While he was a community organizer his wife was earning over $150,000 a year and the year he became a Senator she gave herself a raise to $300,000 a year. Their parents were not rich, but they did get affirmative action benefits that others do not get.

I know a lot of Canadians. Canadian health care is NOT FREE. You pay for it with your taxes, very high taxes. And there are still medical expenses that you have to pay for out of pocket. Also, Canadians come here to the United States to get the best medical treatment in the world. If it was so great there, why do they come here? You also have to wait for months for an MRI in most of Canada. Just like in Europe.

You are talking in your comments about how expensive everything is in Canada and Europe and how much you pay in taxes. It does not sound like Utopia to me. I have lived and been in many countries, Germany, England, Spain, Italy, Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Canada. When I come home to US; I kiss the ground. We are so blessed here with abundance and I will never apologize for my way of life here.

Well, I am an entrepreneur, a liberatarian on tax issues, ( meaning I don't believe in taxation of people) and I am a Capitalist, conservative, Christian and proud of it:) I will fight Socialism and communism until I die.

I take back my comment from before saying that I may come live there to get away from yer boy Obama.... I am AGAINST socialism... I think people need to take care of themselves and be responsible for themselves.  YOU ARE WHAT YOU MAKE YOURSELF... and I dont like the way Obama is trying to restructure us.  AGAIN, reminds me of the ant and grasshopper story....

I am not willing to pay taxes like you do.. What the hell... you pay a ton of taxes and get your "free" healthcare?  You mean the kind where you wait in line for days and the Government puts so many guidelines and restructions on it that everything takes forever and the treatment you get sucks?

No thanks.. This is what Obama wants... I dont want my 68 year old mother having crappy medical care... I would rather pay for good care...

Just my 2 cents -- there is not a true capatlistic country left in the world we all have some form of socialism at some level .... today the world is a mix of socialism and capitalism. ....  and as for a democracy we democratatically elect our dictators .... how often do you ever see those whom we "democratically" elect living up to the promises they made in order to get us to vote them into office.
