The New White House - an administration that will work for all of us

By

The American People have taken back the White House. Once again we have an Administration that will work for us all. This is exciting and encouraging for America and the International Community as well.

An immediate sign that this administration has a completely new and different mind-set is evidenced by the new White House website.

The fresh new site is user-freindly, logical in its layout, and filled with educational & informative facts. It clearly lists the people involved and details an Agenda. It lists Executive Orders, Proclamations, and now features an official Blog.

The site has a section called "Office of Public Liason" which "takes the administration out of Washington and into communities across America, stimulating honest dialogue and ensuring that America's citizens and their elected officials have a government that works effectively for them and with them."

The new administration will use modern technology to better communicate with the country and goes as far to invite citizens to email the White House.

According to the website, "Whitehouse.gov will be a central part of President Obama's pledge to make his the most transparent and accountable administration in American history."

Truly exciting. Now it is time for us all to role up our sleeves and get this country back on track. One citizen at at time.

Don't get me started on politics, rhetoric, etc. Now is the time to see what happens. Now is the time to support the new pres and see if he IS a man of his words and can do something to help us and this country no matter what side you were on during the campaign. Sheesh, it's his first full day in office and the above line is so loaded. Sorry, but I am not buying into that type statement.

Gary: I agree with you, also.

Stacey-Ann: Yes, we are all hopeful.

Herb - These are truly exciting and invigorating times!

Stacey-Ann - Attitude is so important .... so this sense of Hope is vital for things to change. Now actions need to follow.

Gary - New beginings and a fresh start to make things right again!

Steve - You're obviously still bitter about the election. Obama is our new President. Perhaps if you change your attitude and become a bit more receptive to positive change you'll feel better!

Stewart,

Steve is right on.  Do you really believe the administration can be for ALL of us?  Or just for you and who you would like them to be?  Just curious what you meant by that statement.

Either way, we will see what happens.  I hope you are right.

John - I've seen some your negative sentiment in other posts regarding the new administration already, so there's no point in me trying to reason with you.

World sentiment towards America is already improving so that's a great start!

I am happy and excited with the President Obama as well. I use the Whitehouse website quite often when looking for info on past presidents. I was taken completely off guard by the new site yesterday. As you say it is very user friendly.

Stewart,

I said I hope you are right but you never answered my question.  An answer is not reasoning with me.

It's unfortunate that some of us have that 'wait and see' attitudetoward the new administration. 'Wait and see' is what got us in this mess to begin with. It's the time for all Americans to recognize what they can do to help get the country back on track, and do it. There will be the Nay Sayer's, (led by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, etc) who will just wait for any opportunity to take a shot at the new President. That is simply part of the American culture. That's OK. There of plenty of great Americans to begin the push to restoration. Well done Stuart!

Stewart, the pall over the country has lifted!  We finally have a president who is more interested in transparency and communication, than keeping the actions of the government secret.  By the stroke of his pen President Obama has already undone many of bush's last ditch efforts to further ruin the country and the environment.

I am no Bush supporter, but it takes more than a flashy website and an unprecedented election to make me happy with this decision.  This is not a "shot" at anyone, as was described by Scott a few comments above.  We are looking at a socialistic slide right now, and the new administration has already made efforts to slide it further.  I want more than anything for us to move in the right direction economically.  I'm not a nay-sayer.  I'm in disagreement, and my argument is very well founded.

I do not vote for a president based on race or campaign style, and as everyone writing on this topic is educated and no doubt understands it, I doubt any of you do, either.  Likewise, however, I do not vote based on party.  I vote based on policy.  The fact that republicans were at the top when the thing went downhill is not reason enough for me to run to the booth and vote for a democrat, and if a democrat were to advocate a free market system, that candidate would have my full support.  Grouped with these other factors is the website.  This is a political move to me.  I'm not surprised by it, nor does it warrant my support.

It seems especially true with this presidency that anyone who questions the election is saying something blasphemous.  No one had a problem questioning other administrations.  This is civil, intelligent, and well-founded debate, yet I can call to mind many people today who would take an almost violent offense to what I am saying.

Let me end with this: From everything I have seen of Mr. Obama, he seems like a great person.  He seems genuine in his personality.  I like the man as a person.  I am no judge of that, partly because I think, again, that those things are irrelevant when it comes to such large-scale consequences.  I have an economics professor that says, "If the result is bad, who cares if the intentions are good?"  So is my tone negative?  Possibly.  But I am not a nay-sayer, or a shot-taker.  I'm an informed debater, and I have strong opinions about economics.  I may be wrong in feeling this way, but it is almost as though this blog channel is worded to try to shame people like me into agreement, when I have perfectly good reasons for disagreeing.

P.S.--Hopefully you won't look at my blog and decide not to answer my comment, as you did with John.  You asked commenters to be civil in their disagreement, and from what I see, John was civil.  So was I.  If you want 100% agreement and support for Obama, then we may as well do away with the checks-and-balances system that we've relied on since the country was founded.

Nick - I thank you for your comment.

I certainly do not agree with everything that President Obama proposes. And I too believe that checks-and-balances are critical for any system to operate correctly.

However, I believe we all need to consider what he has to say without simply being partisan or obstructionist, and consider the merits, implications and ramifications of his ideas.

I understand.  I just wanted to clarify the difference between disagreement and taking shots, partially because of the faces I get around campus when I say I do not support the president.  When we start to foresake disagreement and difference of opinion, we're in big trouble.  I do, like John, hope for the best, and if I'm wrong and the country swings into a golden age, I wouldn't be in the least bit bitter.

Does no one understand that the economic mess we're in DID NOT originate with the last administration? As I've said before, if you want to lambast Bush for leading us into a war under false pretenses, be my guest. If you feel that's reason enough to elect a Democrat, I understand and empathize.

But the collapse of the housing industry and everything that followed was due to DEMOCRATIC LEGISATION!

Franklin Raines, the biggest crook that never went to jail, (and a close Obama ally and advisor until the candidate had enough sense to distance himself) ran F'Mae and FORCED banks to relax their guidelines and lend to less deserving people OR FACE SEVERE PENALTIES. I hate to keep italicizing for effect, so I'll stop.

This legislation began under Jimmy Carter, the Community Reinvestment Act. But it really got wings during the Clinton administration when Teflon Bill relaxed the guidelines and pushed for more aggressive lending. Good old Bill. To him, we can be forever thankful for the sub-prime lenders. How great a thing for people who couldn't get approved for a $2,500 credit line to suddenly be approved for $300,000 mortgages. And with No money down!!! And, you know what? That $5,000 bill you owe because you defaulted on a car loan? Don't even worry about it. Go to settlement, we won't ask you to pay it.

Bush, with all his faults, recognized that Fannie Mae had run amok, and backed legislation in '02 to put in place a watchdog committee to check F'Mae. McCain co-sponsored a bill with the same agenda in '05. Both bills were squashed by Dems. "You're discriminating against the poor and minorities," they cried indignantly. "Besides," said Raines, "We're GUARANTEEING the loans, so the risk to the lender is minimal."

The only guarantee that came to fruition is that Franklin Raines left Fannie Mae in ruins and retired to his $7.5 million home. And yes, Obama also received donations from the same lobbyists who greased Raines' palm. And, oh, yes. Those lenders, the ones who were forced to lend under relaxed guidlelines, or face severe penalties? They don't have to worry about the penalties. They're out of business.

But I'm really looking forward to this cool website.

Stewart.

If your point is that I'm a die-hard republican, I can only tell you that I spoke out about

against Cheney and Rumsfeld also. Not that its anyone's business, but I voted for Bush the first time, and did not the second.

But it seems that the scars of that admin are there for everyone to see. I can only hope that this admin performs differently. But I've done my homeword, and feel qualified to comment. Knowing the history, and knowing who the new president has been aligned with in the (recent) past, I'm not optomistic. I invite you, at your convenience, to check out my active rain blog, martymtg. Scroll back a few blogs, (past all the belly-aching about sports teams), and read the post in which I attached the letter from Corey the Well-Driller to candidate Obama. If you're still optomistic after reading Corey's letter, more power to you.
