Here in Ashtabula County, Ohio we have a small supply of covered bridge's left from a bygone era.
In the 1940's and 50's With the steel and concrete bridges being built that left the old wooden covered bridges to fall by the wayside. That is until the early 1980's when they started to be restored.
Harpersfield Bridge was renovated in 1991-92 it is one of the longest covered bridges in Ohio.It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the North side of the river is a Metro Park and on the South side there are baseball fields and trails to walk along the river.
Of the 63 plus covered bridges built in Ashtabula County Ohio from the 1860's till the 1940's only 12 remain in drivable condition. That is not counting the 5 newly constructed since 1983.
