I have gone back and forth on Localism.  I started posting local content on Active Rain before there was a Localism.  I don't particularly like the idea of being mooshed up together but that's what Localsim is.  I think people can tell where one person's writing stops and anothers starts.

I try not to worry about what others write on Localism or their own blogs.

I think a lot of what is posted to Localism is pretty boring and there is lots of scamming for placement. Things are posted to About Ohio (About MN, About MI) that are about a county, or about a community, because the AR member wants the placement on the first page Your comments on the Codgers blog... that is where we were discussing this wasn't it? made me look at Localism.   

I am trying to learn how to do the entry on Localism that leads readers to my blog to read the rest of the story...It is still very awkward for me, but in the past week I have tried it three times I believe.  It's not written for other AR members, I don't care about comments.  I see people say they don't like it (not mine but the idea in general) on Active Rain... but they are not the audience it is intended for. 

If it is for others in the industry, it's on Active Rain.  For talking to consumer's it's on my other blogs but then I will do a post for Localism, not a duplicate but a "for the rest of the story" kind of thing. 

Unless I change my mind about Localism once more.

Now that I am paying attention and posting to Localism again I see some of the concerns. Of course it is easiest when I look at Ohio... it jumps out at me. 

Miscategorization, I am going to make the assumption that they post to the wrong categories because they are befuddled rather than evil.  The fact that you have to come in through the state page to get to the local pages I think a lot is posted to the About ______ (state) in our case about Ohio so that they see their face but it really is a waste, it is better down at the city or county level so hopefully newer members learn to categorize correctly and Localism will look better and make more sense.  There will always be new members though....

About Ohio  the top has some very consumer oriented but not About Ohio kind of entries.  Stuff like

"The Value a REALTOR? ",  "Staging your home",  "Open Houses" real estate is local, this would be better in  the bloggers local area IMHO but what do I know?

or also in About Ohio there is specific info about a county or city

they'd be better off posted under the county or city, more targeted.  Hopefully the new members  figure that out.

I have tried to post a few things this week about Ohio... not Columbus, not Franklin County or Central Ohio but Ohio, a senate bill, I think there was another but it escapes me.  About the only thing to me that really belongs on About Ohio (other than mine) is "Residential Code of Ohio."  There's one about becoming an auctioneer but I would think that should be directed to the real estate industry, rather than consumers.  

I told Caleb in early March that I did not think Localism could work.  I keep changing my mind.  I like Localism better if I don't look too close.
