Recently I had a client who was interested in Senior Communities in the SF Bay Area.  She needed to know how close Kaiser was to these communities and that they be an hour driving distance to San Francisco/San Rafael(not during commute times!).  I collected massive quantities of information along this journey.  I know my client did not want to see detail, just the highlights.  This information was summarized into one sheet.  I researched for Senior Communities that one could buy or sell, how close to Kaiser, did they have activities, how old the community is, etc.

The communities I have highlighted are from Solano, Contra Costa, and Sonoma Counties.  I am sure I have missed a pocket of homes somewhere!!  This is one of the fastest growing segments of real estate ownership across the US.

My disclaimer is: I am sure I missed something out there.  I used my own judgement on how I summarized the information.

HOWEVER....I hope someone can find its value in knowing what is available in the Bay Area!!  I welcome feedback and this will be a work in progress.

Melanie ..

That was a nice thing to do.  It is certainly one of the fastest growing group and I am having fun working with them

Jennifer,

Thanks!!  It is something I have been wanting to share.  As it is my first time to do something like this.  I have learned so much from active rain people.  Thanks again.

Gita,

The time spent was well worth it.  It is a ton of info to collect and than decide the most important points that people are looking for.  There is no website that summarizes the info in a simple to understand format.  Good Luck!!  and once established is easy to add to and maintain.

Great post Melanie. Normally this is a group for listings only, but we are making an exception for this post because it certainly supports our communities and in a sense, is a listing of areas for our seniors. Awesome information, I hope others will consider doing these in their areas too. Great job, keep up the good works!

Thanks Brad.  I appreciate it.  IT is outside the norm, but I thought still relevant.

Barbara,

I did try to find out about the 62+, please pass anything you can on and I will update the summary.  I actually talked to an agent who had a home for sale, but could not find an association, nor were they able to give me anything.  I welcome anything you can find!!  In fact that was the only one which was 62+.  The Kaiser hospital is due to open before the add on for the Vallejo Hospital it was announced this week.  Expanded Kaiser facilities are sorely needed in the Vacaville region.  Thanks!!

I hear there is a 62+ community in the area of Rohnert Park or Santa Rosa area. The one at Rancho Solano is about 15 homes, it is tucked up against the club house at Rancho Solano, gated and separate HOA. I have been in many of those homes when new and resale, but don't know much else about it, always seems like such a ghost town as there are few people who qualify to own them around here.

Barbara,

Thanks for the feedback.  The one at Rancho Solano if you know the name or where I might contact the HOA.  It is so small that when I did see one for sale the agent was not able to really give me anything.  The Santa Rosa region is full of adult communities, I will see what I can find out about the 62+.

Barbara -

I have included this link http://fchr.state.fl.us/ that might help people looking for 55+ communities. It is a starting point to find those communities registered as 55+. This linked site is ran by the Florida Commission on Human Resources and there is a ton of information and links that are updated in a timely fashion and offer many useful resources. Besides the links to the registered communities there is a FAQ's section on 55+ communities.

Hope this helps.

What a great resource!  Does anyone have a list of communites in Sacramento County?  By the way, consider the reverse mortgage for helping folks over 62 purchase a home.  (Details on my blog).  Thanks for the great post!  Sylvia
