Cellphone lust

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX of Naperville

HTC TyTNIt's ridiculous!

I'm never happy, even when I am. I'm talking about cell phone PDA combo's....

I've had a lot of mobile phones since 1990, started with Cellular One (now Cingular) and have used all other services and a slew of phones ever since... eventually ending back with Cingular for their strong signal at my house and office.

I always need to have the latest and greatest... (Computers, Tablets etc...) I wonder what that says about my mental well being?

For the mobile phone/PDA combos... I started with the Treo 270, then went to the Kyocera 7135, then I switched to a Nokia running Symbian and have been happily using my Treo 650 for over a year.

I've got everything working perfectly. It does almost everything that I want it to!

I am now officially lusting after the HTC TyTn (pronounced titan) it's a windows based machine similar to the Cingular 8125, and the ones that Verizon & T-Mobile use too (HTC makes them all) except that it's got a faster processor and is 3G compatible.

Am I alone in this pitiful quest for perfection?

I use a blackberry (nextel) - no complaints. I probably don't use as many of the features available as possible.

Hi Angus, You're not alone. I too need to have the best of the best, I just keep my technologies separate. I have a phone, then a PDA & a notebook.

Angus...it took great discipline to read through your entire post and fight the salviating urge to read up on this gem.  I love technology.

I once heard it put so well by a fellow technomaniac ..."Life's simple..It's all about who ends up with the most and the best toys"

Angus...this makes me think of shopping in general (which I do not like to do)--if I don't see it, I don't need it.

Angus,

I have the  MDA from Tmobile and the makers are  HTC, believe me it is a sharm compared to treo, treo is cheaper and some users want treo because they do not need more,   this one comes with windows 5.0   and a lot of applications that you use daily, It is awesome.   It is very compatible with windows xp

I love my mda

OK, thanks for the input!

Bought it a few minutes ago on eBay for $660.

I had also been looking at the new HP 6945 (same as 6925) but they're using older technology.

I'll report back in a couple of days.

I have a Palm Treo 700. It was orignially listed as an approved device on the GE Supra site so I purchased it thinking how great it would be to have my phone, PDA and Ekey in one simple tool. Not 2 weeks after I purchased the smart phone, it was pulled off the list. So now im stuck with a phone that is not that impressive to me which I cannot even use as my Ekey. I would have gone with the highend blackberry if i was just choosing a devise for its phone & PDA features..

Alone?  Not at all, Moo!  I have a couple of friends that salivate heavily every time they see a new tech toy!  I let them try them all out, learn what's great and not so great about each one they try, and then think about buying what they recommend.  The two of them have just about every gadget known to mankind!

Me, I suffer from analysis paralysis too much to be on the leading edge.......maybe some day though!  ;-)

Angus,  call me old fashioned, but I carry a simple Motorola phone with no database, email, camera, mp3 player, bell or whistle.  For that phone, with unlimited local and long distance and 750 minutes of anywhere roaming I pay about $70/month tax included.  Being on my phone over 2000 minutes a month, traveling often, and doing 300-400 minutes of LD, the deal can't be beaten.  My Blackberry takes care of mobile email and database functions - about $55/mo - unlimited.  I don't mind carrying 2  pieces of equipment, and my phone is so cost effective, i can't let it go.  Besides, if I got one of those fancy machines, i would probably drop it or leave it on top of my car or something.

Angus,

I have carried a palm pilot for years and now use a Treo 650.

Its just my preference but I would not want to switch to the Windows mobile operating system. Walt Mossberg who writes about technology for the Wall Street Journal has written several reviews that outline his preference of the Palm OS over Windows mobile in handheld devices. You can view archives of his articles here, he reviews all types of technology.

My business partner loves his 8525... but it is not as reliable as a PHONE as he likes.  In fact it drops a lot of calls.  He's hooked on the functionality especially since changing from his Blackberry.  He misses some things about his blackberry but he likes having a mini computer.

I personally carry a Cingular Sync = Blackjack minus Windows Mobile... I can check mail and do all sorts of 3G applications... and I have an hp iPaq hx4705 which blows all PDA-Phones away in the ability to surf the web, edit documents, show spreadsheets... and it holds a ton more removable memory...

There is a way to pair it with my Sync using bluetooth to get me fulltime internet access via my phone's modem.  I'm learning to do it now.

In the meantime it is WiFi capable and there are more hotspots everyday!

All Paneras are wifi for free!
