Virginia Beach Alarm Registry

By
Real Estate Technology with Virginia Beach

I got an alarm registration in the mail last week and wanted to share with others in case you didn't receive.

Virginia Beach Police Department has asked that you register your business or home if you have a security system with a one time $10 fee.  The reason behind this is that they receive 22,000 false alarms a year and needs to be able to keep database up and to help cover costs.

You are allowed 2 false alarms per year and then it goes to $150 for homes and $250 for businesses

I have had an alarm system in my house for 6 years and have never had a false alarm or even had it go off due to a real burglary.  Thank goodness! I think it is such a small price to pay for the added security for me and my family.

Naoma, I think a registry is a great idea. I wish we had something like it in my community. I leave a note on the door when the alarm is on because I have set it off g the dog out in the morning. (thankfully we get a call from our alarm company before the sheriff is called).

I wish they had a plan for more than 2!  My Dad is constantly setting off his alarm!

Debbie - I can see both sides to this.  But as a homeowner if you happen to get more than 2..It is going to add up really quickly.

Karen - I think it all comes down to that story of the boy who cried wolf

Tina - uh oh!  It is going to add up quickly per occurence.
