Ladder"You can not push anyone up a ladder unless he is willing to climb a little."  - Andrew Carnegie

Most people get into the broker side of the real estate business because they enjoy the personal development aspect.  Yes, there are other contributing factors, but a broker's belief in their agents is one that is a two edged sword.  We tend to believe that we can work people through their rough spots and make them successful despite themselves.  No one can succeed for someone else.  Success can't be given away, despite our noble attempts to do so.   As we take a look into this next season, let's take a look at our staff and get brutally honest with reality.  We cannot drag someone against their will into success; we cannot push them up that latter - unless they are willing to climb a little...

 Carpe diem,

Chris

Too often people travel from place to place (or brokerage to brokerage) wanting someone to "fix" them.  They need to realize that you can only "fix" yourself.  Hopefully, when you are willing to work on the "inside', someone is there to lend you along and help you up the ladder.

Success is often a slow and consistent process.  Many people are looking for a quick fix and rarely will it be found.  Success is not just about the position you hold in life, but your inner development and it takes time to develop character.  It does not happen over night.  We can guide our friends and colleagues, but the choices they make are theirs alone.

I wonderful Realtor Friend of mine just gave me John Maxwell's "Go For Gold" this morning (one of the few of his that I have not yet read).  His introduction talks about this very issue.

"Leaders develop daily - not in a day." John C. Maxwell

I like Rick's first reply to this. You can offer all the mentoring / training/ help you want, but if someone doesn't want to do the work, they won't succeed!
