I Vote For An $825 Billion Bailout For US Taxpayers

The House has agreed to an $825 BILLION stimulus package that has numerous and varied trappings and once the monies are disbursed all we can do is sit back and wait to see if it all helps our economy.

I decided to try my hand at using these huge numbers for the purpose of assisting the working citizens of this great country instead of handing it to CEOs who already have shown their track record.

I ran a quick web search for the total US population and the latest figures place it at 306 million souls.  I also found that 28% of us are under 20 years of age and another 13% are over 65.  This leaves 59% of the population as the main bread winners, or 180,540,000 of us.

If you are still with me, you are not afraid of numbers.  I then divided the $825 Billion by the 180,540,000  and this would give each of us a stimulus check of $4,570 each.  A husband and wife team would receive $9,140.  There's your economic stimulus package.  Americans love to spend money.  That currency would be in the hands of retailers in no time and it would filter it's way back to the manufacturers and service providers of all fields of our economy.

Sounds like a great way to stimulate me. I would look at buying some things I have been wanting but holding off on.

I glad to see you have done the numbers.  I wondered what the number would be and why we are giving so much to the bad banks that are continuing to fail.

Laura

I believe a good percentage of us are holding back on certain purchases we would like to make.

Hi Terry, I could really use $9,140.00....honestly, I don't know if I would spend it though, I would probably save it for a rainy day. Now, if I could get a tax credit in that amount!! EUREKA!! :-)

Mary,

These are rainy days.  Spend that MONEY!!!  They'll make more.  Just ask the guys at the government printing shop.  Those presses must be working through all three shifts.

Our economy is in fine shape. I don't understand what all the hubbub is about. It's pretty easy to grasp---spend what you make on whatever you want, don't bother saving (that's for sissies!), give yourself a much needed raise and a barrel full of bonuses on a regular basis. If you find yourself out of greenbacks and owing more than you have, no worries. Print up some more and start all over again! -S
