Have you ever presented an idea or proposal that gets ignored and then see someone present the same thing and people think it's great?
I think it's all about the set up which is pretty much what marketing is all about. You position yourself in a certain manner and then whatever you say is accepted more readily and people are willing to follow your advice.
A big idea is still important but how it is presented is equally important. Without the right combination, it's hard to get people to follow your advice.
You see it all over, everywhere you look. I see it here at ActiveRain. Some people write a post and it gets ignored. Someone else who has laid a better foundation on ActiveRain and who presents it in a slightly prettier manner gets a feature post for the same topic or idea and people write very supportive comments.
I had to laugh at the following video from Jon Stewart of the Daily Show. He picked up the same thing I did after listening to Obama's inauguration speech. I thought I had heard many of those same ideas come out of Bush's mouth. Obama is a master marketer. He has the masses howling with excitement at the same ideas that they were just jeering at shortly before.
The messenger is as important as the message.
