Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

I have been in a number of houses recently that present the challenge of mirrored walls that give the house a definite 70's vibe. I have not always had luck convincing a seller to rid the room of the mirrors. Unfortunately, buyers perceive these rooms as dated and are equally unlikely to want to take on the task of removal. This seller understood that she needed to make some drastic changes in order to update the look of the house--including removing the mirrors. I think you will agree the "fairest of them all" is the staged, mirror-less room!

Looks much better minus the mirrors.  Have been in this situation too - it does take some convincing to get sellers to remove them - I think it is more about doing the work or hiring someone to do it.  As your photo shows - well worth the effort or small expense to hire someone.

Linda, I'm so glad you brought this up --  mirrored walls have been a pet peeve of mine for years! It definitely dates the home negatively. Mirrors are all fine and good to enlarge a space, but it's much more attractive if they're framed instead of floor to ceiling.

In fact I wrote a blog about it a long time ago, with before and after pictures:  Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...or Not? - Staging Small Spaces - Marin Home Staging.  Hope that's helpful in pursuading someone to take the plunge (better yet, hiring someone to remove them safely for them). Thanks for the post!  Leslie

Michele,

Thanks for commenting. This house also had a curved wall of mirrors (vertical slats) upon intial entry into the house. Unfortunately, I neglected to get a photo of them! The seller did hire someone to remove them all.

Leslie,

Thanks for sharing your earlier post and more visual proof of the dramatic change when dated mirrors are removed!

Great change.  Hate those mirrors.  You are so lucky they let you remove them.
Some homeowners are so stubborn.
