Did you know that 32% of buyers in 2008 first learned of the home they purchased by seeing it on the Internet? That number was up from 29% in 2007 and from just 2% in 1997. As more home searches are done online, we must expand our Internet presence and improve awareness of our public MLS search engines.

I haven't spoken to a prospective buyer in the past several years who did not view homes for sale on the Internet.

I'm expanding!

This was a goal for us in 2008 and I must say we reached it and acceded its results. Now we have a few other ventures up our sleeve.

This number will only increase. Shows the importance of a quality website and good placement. Places like AR help with this.

I'm surprised it was that low. Does that mean 68% are still getting newspaper in on their fingers?

Internet presence is key to attracting buyers. I had on contact me last week. I sent some listings and received an email this morning from them with a specific home they want to see. Life is good.

My focus for the next several months is in building and improving my internet presence. If Google can't find you then I bet the buyers and sellers can't either. To quote Lenn, I'M EXPANDING!!

Andrea, I'm sure that number will continue to rise in the future. A very reason to keep blogging and keeping ourselves ranked high in the search engines. Thanks.

Where do you get your numbers 32 ? The one we have heard over and over are close to 3 times that number....and judging from our website, blogs, etc....32 does not sound accurate...curious to know your source.

I suspect that 32% is about right or close enough for publication.

is different than the oft' quoted or should I say "touted" statistic that home buyers begin their search on for homes on the Internet which figure is closer to 80%.

That number does seem low but Lenn's comment above does make sense. We are upgrading our site and doing everything we can to increase our exposure on the internet.

The trends sure seems to be going that way, and those Realtors who want to stay in the game, they need to have an internet presence.
