Skiing is a fun sport, fresh air, time with friends and family and occasionally a chance to raise money for some good causes. Here are just some of the events that Qualify as fun and Fundraiser for the Balance of the 2009 ski season:
1/24..they have been making snow like mad men this week to Host the "Open Season 3" rail series and event for snowboarders and free-skiers..with ramp, rails and huuuge jumps. Loon's terrain park manager Brian Norton has the place looking Buff. Too big for me but those without fear will launch themselves skyward in this cool event.
2/6 CASA..Fundraiser. for the New Hampshire chapter of the Court-Appointed-Special-Advocates. Money collect goes towards New Hampshire Volunteers advocating in the best interest of abused or neglected children, the Courts see 1,500 case per year and this organization could use your help.This event is Sponsored by WMUR TV 9, the Common Restaurants,and Loon mt. great fun and a worthy cause. Teams of 4 ,enjoy breakfast, Lunch, dual slalom event and fun Apre' ski party.
2/15 Open Season Finals..Rail series, competition, open to intermediate and advanced snowboarders and skiers.
2/19-21 Fluorescent Nights..The Loon Ski Resort , opens up the Little sisters terrain park for these nights for skiing, snow boarding and snow tubing during the school vacation week.
2/28 The Main Events Finals ..this even offer an chance for a wild card invitation to the 2009 U.S. Open of Snowboarding, and welcomes amateurs and professional riders to participate in a slope-style competition , with points going towards the covetted wild-card spot.
3/7 TJX Briefcase race with Mike Lynch (of WCVB).. Last years fund raiser donated $75,000 toward Faulkner Hospital..of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Breast Cancer research center. Not only a good cause but a huge event with Zany costumes and "as the title says" a race involving skiers with briefcases..sometimes suites and ties.
3/8 Littleton Regional Hospital Ski-a-thon.Raise money for our local hospital , with individual sponsors making donations for how many runs you can make in one day. And of course awards for the most runs and money raised
3/14 Kostick Kup..this Annual fundraiser goes towards scholarships, discounted lift tickets, and adaptive ski equipment to help students with disabilities learn and enjoy skiing and other snow sports. for tickets and race registration call 603-745-6281 X 5663 (event sponsor wmass.White Mountain Adaptive snow sports).
3/21 Governor's Cup ..This on going race began over 30 years ago as a tribute to Loon's Founder and Former Governor Sherman Adams. Proceeds from this even supports Local athletes who compete in the sport at all levels.
3/22 Cardboard Box Race..This one ranks up there as one of the funniest events of the year. With all contestants attempting to make it to the finish line in all kinds of contraptions made of Cardboard..You'll laugh until you cry..Bring a change of ski pants to this one.
3/25 Eastern Boarder- Last Call. Watch some of the East's best athletes compete from the U.S. Open of Snowboarding..at Loon Mountains snow-board park.
3/28 Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge-Finals.. Eastern finals for the national challenge..these are the top-dogs in the sport, and fun to watch (and a little scary).
4/4 Slush Pool Party /&/Margaritas ..there is no better wet and wild event with a crowd of on-lookers contestants will attempt to skim across a huge pool of water in front of the Octagon base lodge (close to the Bunyan room- bar.and heckling section).
4/12 Easter Sunday-Sunrise Service: featuring a non-denominational service at the top of the mountain followed by a day of skiing and an Easter egg hunt on the slopes and in the base lodge areas.
