Close Encounters of the Mexican Kind

On Thurs. I attended a meeting  with  local women dedicated  to serving victims of  cancer here in Rocky Point, Sonora, MX  I have been  searching  for a group other than the  typical  American Tourist and Real Estate  agents.  This  successful group  that has enabled  hundreds of  the poorest  women to have cancer prescreening  as well as assist in the payment of  chemo therapy.    I was happy  to listen  to the  presentation  while intently  picking out  a few words here and there.    Basically  because of the  worldwide economic challenges  the  regular donations  from  the local businesses  are  gone.  Fishing,Housing and tourism  are the  engine of this local economy.  All are  in a depressed state.    In March  of 2009  a mobile Cancer screening  vehicle from  Hermosillo  will arrive.    Allowing  the most needy residents  to be  screened.   In the past  over 250 individuals  completed the  screenings.    My  understanding is the costs  are aproximately  $45.00 USD,   all of these costs  are going to be  paid  by  the Womens  volunteer Group.   In the past  years  Business donations  covered about  1/2.   But  this year  all of the funds will  have to be raised  without  that benefit.    I have no doubt  that these dedicated women will  be successful,  there is a fund raising event scheduled   where by  the  group will take orders  for an  authentic  mexican dinner  to be prepared  for  a donation I will have the  mininum  cost soon.  IF  any of my readers  are in Rocky Point,  please contact me  and I will be glad  to take your order.
