This weekend, Charlotte is getting a treat from its community college students. The opera program at CPCC- Central Piedmont Community College is presenting the "Tales of Hoffman" this weekend.
It is an opera about Hoffmans experiences and adventures with love. Hoffman was a 19th century writer and composer. Some of his work later became The Nutcracker. Anyway, in Tales of Hoffman, the main character travels the world to answer the question, which is more important, art or love. He is followed by the muse of art.
I don't know if it's just me, but this seems like complex art from a community college. I hear that some of the instructors and professors in the community college art program are experienced professionals. Some who have traveled the world performing opera.
With a city the size of Charlotte, people who have international opera experience can exist and spend some of their free time at the community college teaching young students to sing.
The program puts on several shows a year and they are typically great and they are a bargain compared to the professional theaters. If you love art and theater and opera, the community college is a great place to look for entertainment on the cheap.
