Brecksville Town Square

A wonderful mix of charming and rugged, old and new, work and play, arts and theater, and above-all, a great community!  Located just 13 miles south of downtown Cleveland (home of the Cavaliers!), approximately 13,500 residents call Brecksville HOME. It is a town that offers just about everything for everyone-young and old alike.  From hiking in the Cleveland Metroparks or Cuyahoga Valley National Park to biking along the Towpath Trail, swimming, working out, taking a spinning class or joining a sports team at the Brecksville Community Center, or playing a round of golf at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.  You may even feel up to taking a ride on the Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad, perhaps for some wine-tasting, or a Christmas adventure, or just to enjoy all of the wonderful wildlife and scenery.

If you are feeling artistic, you can take classes at the Brecksville Center for the Arts or audition for a play at the Brecksville Theater on the Square or Brecksville Little Theater.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can take up horseback riding at Brecksville Stables, a nonprofit organization located in the beautiful Brecksville Reservation which offers well-groomed bridle trails.

Feel like getting out in the winter?  Mere minutes away, you can experience skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing at Brandywine or Boston Mills Ski Resorts.

The main downtown area is centrally located and includes welcoming, local retail businesses such as the Brecksville Music, Brecksville Donut Shoppe, Paul Duda Gallery, Bookman & Son Fine Jewlery, MaryAnn's Candies and Millbreck Garden Center to name but a few.  A little further down the road is Clippity-Clop Western Store & Saddlery, just in case you decide to take up horseback riding!

There are two large grocery markets as well, Giant Eagle and Heinen's, a Cleveland-based, family-owned and operated fine foods grocer. And if you don't feel like cooking, there are a number of local, diverse restaurants including Creekview Sakura, Eddie's Creekside Restaurant and Market, Frankie's Wok, Mill Road Grill, 2182 Bistro and Wine Bar, and Courtyard Café.  These are just some of the choices to satisfy everyone's palate!

The beautiful, newly renovated library is a wonderful, comfortable place and includes regular classes and events, used book sales, holiday delights, guest speakers and authors, and helpful staff!  The library is a branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library Sytem which has 29 locations that serve 47 suburban communities.

The library is directly across from the awesome 48,000 square foot Brecksville Community Center (BCC).  The  BCC has a jogging track, basketball and volleyball courts, an expansive fitness area, indoor and outdoor pools, a whirlpool, locker rooms with saunas, a youth game room, a kitchen, community room and lounge, plus a day care center for the kids while the adults stay in shape!  There was a recent addition to the Community Center which includes a therapy pool, fitness program area, and community rooms for the older and physically challenged residents.

Lest I forget, getting so carried away with the unbelieveable amenities this town offers, the types and styles of homes in Brecksville range from so new that the road is not even paved yet to Victorian charm, circa 1800's, and pretty much everything in-between.   The housing stock is truly diversified and depending on your requirements and/or desires, you can be pretty sure you will find what you are looking for in Brecksville.  You may end up having too many options once you realize the beauty and uniqueness of the different neighborhoods, which is not a bad thing!

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District is comprised of the entire city of Brecksville, most of Broadview Heights, and a small segment of North Royalton. There are approximately 4,700 students in the District, who attend either the high school (9-12), the middle school (6-8), the intermediate school (4-5) or one of three elementary schools (K-3).  The District boasts great achievements throughout the years including ratings in the top ten percent of all school districts in the nation, one of the top suburban districts in the area, producing seniors who qualified as National Merit Scholars for 49 consecutive years, and receiving the highest possible rating on the state-mandated District Report Card since its debut in 2000.  In addition, the High School was 1 of 37 Ohio public high schools named a Silver Medal School by U.S. News and World Report.

My wife and I are residents and business owners in this fine town and feel very fortunate to call Brecksville home.  Our two children attend the schools and our dog has explored many trails and ravines in his 6 year lifetime!

Oh, there are so many places to visit, people to meet, and stories to tell about Brecksville...and future posts will all be presented here, on Localism.com.
