Obama’s “American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.”

By
Mortgage and Lending with Greenville, NC

I’ve been spending a little time, this morning, reviewing email I receive from Boone Pickens group and Barack Obama.

Bear in mind, I am a lifelong Republican, yet it intrigues me that I am receiving weekly emails from Obama’s operation. I have never had this happen from candidates that I actually support. I wrote an article about this a few weeks back. You can view this post by clicking here.

I thought I would share an appeal from Boone Pickens site regarding proposed legislation regarding energy policy contained in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

there are parts that will help us and for that reason I ask for your support. Specific examples include:

- Extension and Increase of the Alternative Energy Production Tax Credit
- Implementation of a Renewable Energy Loan Program for Alternative Energy Manufacturers and Producers
- Implementation of a Natural Gas Tax Credit and possible increase in gas taxes for anything other than Natural Gas
- Implementation of a Battery Credit for Cars

Let's tell Congress that we want this bill as a step in the right direction. You can do so by making a phone call to your Congressional Representative this coming Monday and Tuesday. You can use (202) 225-3121 starting around 9 AM and ask for your Representative. We need to let them know that we care about this issue.”

I would also like to share a couple of video’s from Obama’s websites outlining provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan

The second video is President Obama’s weekly video address on January 24, 2009.

The purpose of this post is NOT one of advocacy, but to share information.

However, this is my call to action: if you are in strong agreement or disagreement with provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan communicate with your elected officials NOW!

I welcome your opinions. Please comment and share your thoughts!!!!

Do not let the talking heads of the media determine the agenda. You can be part of setting the agenda.

Jay, this is a great post and I like to way you are just presenting the facts and not your opinion. I am a strong believer in letting the facts speak for themselves (if they are truly the facts). One thing you can't blame Obama for is inaction. Let's see if bi-partisanship really does exist. Thanks for the info!

The other day I watched a show that I have never watched before called Bill Moyers Journal. On Friday he had two guests - one a progressive author by the name of Siorita and the other was a Wall Street Journal write and financial historian by the name Frank.

Here is the link - it's thought provoking.

The basic premise of these gentlemen is that, as a country, we have allowed our financial institutions to run the country right off a cliff AND that Obama's victory is a strong message to our government that we want and expect things to change. The concern is that he is too much of a concensus builder. Right, wrong or indifferent Obama must push us in a different direction.   This means ignoring bipartianship and going for the win.

It is clear that the the economic policies of the past 20 -25 years are a complete and total failure and lie. Over the course of the past two years every believe that I have about economic policy has been turned upside down. Although I've been a lifelong Republican - I can and will never be able to believe or vote for historical Republican policy again.

While contacting Congress makes us feel better I don't believe that it makes one darn bit of good. They are so removed from the real world that it's not even funny. The real movement should be to Fire Congress and force a strong third party into the equation. Just my band wagon for the day.

Jay - now is the time to pay attention, watch carefully and be ACTIVE in the process! There is a huge concern that the guidelines will tighten to a point beyond where they really need to... pulling more on the economy.

Hope, I have come to believe we must communicate with elected officials or else the only voices they hear are the lobbyist and their money

Kristi, our republic depends upon an informed electorate.

Joanne, Obama certainly embraces today's technology like no one we've seen. It will be interesting to see if it is just for show or sincere. I do hope we will get serious with the development of alternative energy sources and am supportive of greater utilization of mass transit.

Karen, I too hope we will not be disappointed. There are many things about Obama that greatly concern me. However I do not intend to trash him everyday. I did not appreciate the way Bush was treated. I do believe we should focus on areas upon which we agree and spend less time focusing on disagreements.

Susan, I too hope bi-partisanship will work. American Solutions has a call for tri-partisanship (democrats, republicans and independents).  http://www.americansolutions.com/

Nicholas, One of the most troublesome factors from both the final months of the Bush administration and an unchecked democrat rule is the speed at which we are becoming a socialist nation.

Kate, perhaps I'm being naive. I am skeptical  enough to believe the #1 thing politicians are concerned with is being re-elected and remaining in power. From that desire I hope they will pay attention to the will of the people. To know that we must tell them what we think.

As to the Republicans, their biggest problem from 2002-2006 is they governed like democrats. For Republicans to succeed they should have governed as conservatives.

I have long felt a strong third party would be good for the country. It would force coalition and perhaps better solutions.

Lastly, I support a constitutional amendment of term limits for the House and Senate.

Eleanor, We must be diligently informed. By "guidelines will tighten" I'm assuming you are referring to lending guidelines. We may have already gone too far. While sitting here thinking about it I need to get my notebook and jot down several ideas for blogs on how they have gone too far.

Jay I really enjoy your thoughtful responses. I disagree with you on the part of the Republicans governing like Democrats. They didn't govern at all!! In fact, they waited to govern until things got so out of control that we were already over cliff. I also don't believe that an issue of bipartisanship. Bipartisanship is a total cop out and is not what is best for American public. Bipartisan votes simply means that good legislation must become too watered down to be hard hitting and effective. Obama needs to be willing to push for the win, bipartisanship be dammed!! We as Americans need to fire to fire 1/2 the Democrats and 1/2 of the Republicans and hire a third party!! I'm in favor of forming a Centrist Party - a name that people that many can understand and identify with.

I like the idea of recovery.gov. and will be following the plan with interest. I hope our Senators and Congressman will embrace "citizens, not partisans."

Kate, bi-partisanship, to me, means common areas of agreement. Issues that both paties agree upon. There are many issues, which polling data indicates that 70%= of the American people agree.

Obama will not have to be too concerned with bi-partisanship, his first two years at least. His biggest concern will be controlling a democratic Congress.

I enjoy your passion.

John, it will be interesting t witness government expenditures being tracked on a web site. It will then be up to the citizens to demand accountability.

Jay, whether these programs work or not, at least we have a president who is concerned, proactive, and ready to do what needs to be done to help this country recover.  So far his pretty much batting 100% on all the issues he's addressed in just a mere 6 days in office.  I think bush had taken his first vacation to Crawford by this time!

Terry, let's pray for him to have the wisdom to get it right. This economy is very fragile and this is big money. I'm for the development of alternative energy sources. I view the reduction of our dependence on foreign oil an economic, environmental and national security issue. Other parts of his plan I'm more skeptical. Still doing my research.
