Most of you know who Gary Sinise is, the lead actor on CSI NY and the acadamy award winning actor for portraying Lt. Dan Taylor in the movie Forest Gump. One thing you might not know about him is that he is an accomplished bassist and along with his friend, Kimo Williams ( a Viet Nam vet) have formed a music group called the Lt. Dan Band.
The band started out doing small jam sessions and local gigs in and around Chicago but it soon branched out into something more. Kimo, like many Viet Nam veterans, suffered insults, diatribes, etc, from many Americans upon his return from service. After 9/11 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Gary and Kimo decided to do something to make sure that those serving and returning veterans knew that they were appreciated and did not have to put up with what many of us Viet Nam vets had to.
In 2004, the Lt. Dan Band started playing shows for the military, both in the U.S. and abroad. They do about 15 - 20 shows a year, on top of Gary's 6 month CSI schedule and Kimo's other musical efforts. On top of that, Mr. Sinise makes his own visits to Iraq and other bases and hospitals to visit those serving on a more personal level.
So, check out the Lt. Dan Band website, and their schedule. If they are playing near you, go see them, they play a varieity of music, rock, country, soult, etc. The proceeds go to a great cause, and, they are pretty good.
Maybe, like Gary and Kimo, and the band, you too will give a Piece of Your Heart. Go ahead and listen to them, you might enjoy the music.
