On March 13, 2007 Statistics Canada released the populations and dwelling count from the 2006 Census. The population of Canada has grown from 30,007,097 people in 2001 to 31,612,897 in 2006, a growth of 5.4%. The province of Ontario grew by 6.6% in the same time period, second only to Alberta's 10.6%.

As far as Belleville, Ontario goes we had an increase of 6.1%. The population grew to 48,821 people in 2006 from 46,029 in 2001. Although this growth was not greater than the provincial average it still exceeded the national average by almost 13%.

From a Belleville Ontario, perspective, there was a total 21,239 private dwellings in Belleville in 2006. This made up less than 1/2 of 1% of the total private dwellings in the whole province of Ontario. In other words a drop in the bucket.

The population density in Belleville, Ontario is 197.8 people per square kilometre, much higher than the provincial average of 13.4 people. This makes it easier to understand why Real Estate in Belleville is more expensive when compared to more rural, less densely populated ares in the province.
