Susan and I watched "King Corn" this weekend - it's a docurama about our food system, in particular the role of corn in everything we eat.  We had known that corn products are extensively used but were blown away by the HUGE amounts of sweeteners and other corn derivitaves that manufacturers use to make what Americans eat.

Two friends move to Iowa to raise an acre of corn, to see what happens to it.  They spend time with everyone from the local farmers to the PR representative from the Corn Refiners Association.  I think you'll feel like you've really learned something after watching this 90 minute movie.

Here's the trailer:

Sorry Jeff.  I'm going to pass.  I just got off my treadmill.  I suspect that if I watched that 90 minute video about all of the sweetner produced from corn, I'd have to do another mile.

This looks like it's right up my alley...is it available at blockbuster? After going to a Tony Robbins weekend in November of 07 I really started to understand that we need to dig deeper & understand what we put in our bodies...it's funny that we would never pour sugar in our gas tank because we need our cars to run well and depend on it to get us from point A to point B for a good 10 yaers. Yet we will put damned near anything in our bodies, sugar, chemicals, rotted food (cheese, vinegar, alcohol)  and we need our bodies to carry us through 80+ years! Just doesn't make sense I tell ya! Thanks for tip I will try to find King Corn tonight!

Lenn - you know you want to know...

Trish - Probably.  We took our copy out from the library locally.  Another highly recommended option is "Supersize Me".  Eeks!

OK, Jeff!  This is one I have to see!  Years ago, a guy named Jim Hightower wrote a great book called "Hard Tomatoes, Hard Times" about what agribusiness is doing to fruits and veggies.  Is anything save to eat?

Corn and corn byproducts are not only in much of our food, but in gasoline and many consumer products.
