OK it is official. I am losing my patience. I woke up this morning and couldn't believe it.

For the last 3 weeks here, in Central Florida, we have experienced smoke that was coming all the way from Georgia. It's been crazy! Those 650,000 acres that were burning there were felt all of the way in Daytona Beach.

Now we have "our own" brush fire in Flagler and Volusia counties. Click on the link to see news reports and pictures. You can feel the smoke in the air. The smell is unbelievable. All of you out there with allergies and asthma conditions, I feel for you.

How to fix it? We need the RAIN. Simple things like air quality make such a big difference.

How is your air quality?

We have great air here in Bend, Oregon. No smog and outside of the occasional forest fire...wonderful to breathe. Hope you get some rain soon : ) Nice reminder to appreciate the simple things..

Hi Kelli,

I used to live in Seattle, WA, so after awhile I got really tired of the rainy weather. I guess everything is good but in moderation!

I live in the Seattle area.  We have a little extra rain so far this year.  If I could I'd ship some down to you.  But, it doesn't take much warm weather up here to be in the same position as they are down there.  That is one reason that I turn in the license plate numbers of those who throw cigarette butts from their cars.  It is a 1,025 dollar fine.  I know that most forest fires are set by lightning, but most fires along road sides are caused by cigarette butts being thrown from vehicles.

I feel your Pain... We have just had a huge fire in our area, almost 1000 Acres Burned. 60 fires year to date and we still have 2 months to go. Average year has about 60..... I awoke this morning to the smell of fire and the smoke all over the area. Rains will come eventually.

Good point, Roger. We need to preserve the environment and turn in those knuckleheads that trash it!

Hey, Jay. Thanks for the encouragement.  I looked at the weather forecast, the "rain" horizon is unfortunately clear.

Well...I live in Jacksonville, Fla. and we had so much smoke that it caused an accident on the Dames Point Bridge and a woman flew out of her car and survived!  The Dames Point is so tall that cruise ships can clear it by merely 2 inches!  Anyway, I heard on the news yesterdat that Jacksonville has only had THREE days with 1 inch of rain since September.  SEPTEMBER!  Are you kidding me!?  No wonder all of those fires in GA and NE Florida are growing like crazy.......someone do the rain dance!

Do not envy you the smoke smell, but a strange spring here in the Ozarks has resulted in huge amounts of polen everywhere.  My car turned green with cedar pollen and my nose is very sore from sneezing.

Anna, when I got home I could see blue sky over the beach, but am sure that will change over night :(. I'm really worried about this summer, neither of us were here in 98, can't imagine what that was like and I don't want to find out.

Not only can we feel the smoke, we can taste it, ewe!!

Valorie, you are right. September?! That's crazy!

Joan, I'd take the smoke any day instead of pollen. I am severely allergic to that stuff.

Lysa, they said we "MAY" have a shower this afternoon, which I doubt will happen, but would be a really nice thing!
