frustrated bloggerI have received several emails from people asking me how I always come up with good topics to blog about.  I am never quite sure how to answer this question, because I don't think I have "different" ideas.  I think I always blog about the the two same things:  Marketing / Website Promotion (SEO) or mortgages.  That's it though.  Those are the only two things are really know about.

I know that there have been posts that have offered suggestions for blogging topics, but I thought I could add a couple more.

1.  Blog about your worst client ever.  What did he or she do to you that made them so terrible?  How did you feel?  How do you avoid these types of clients in the future?

2.  Blog about your best client ever.  You know, the one that sent you a closing gift; the one who gives you more referrals than you'd get if you worked the floor.

3.  You could blog about every single one of your listings...and you probably should do this anyway.  Do not misunderestimate (thank you George W.) the power of ActiveRain.

4.  Blog about successful or unsuccessful marketing techniques you've tried.  For example, I once spent $10,000 on a radio advertising campaign and I didn't get a single phone call.  Okay,  that's a lie.  I did get one phone call and the guy wanted an $11,000 home equity loan on a 1971 mobile home.  I couldn't help him.

5.  Blog about your ActiveRain experience.  Tell us about your search engine positioning and how you think you achieved that.  Or tell us about that great client that you have right now, all because he or she or they read your brillian AR posts.

6.  You could blog about other members.  If somebody writes a particularly brilliant post, you could honor them with a post of your own, which would be about their post.  It will give them another inbound link, so you will help them in the search engine.

7.  If nothing else- post "off topic."  If you have a recipe for the world's most aromatic chocolate chip cookies (for an open house), share the recipe!  In fact, after this post, I am going to post my recipe for Coffee Cream Walnut Pie and it's to die for.

8.  Blog about useful websites that you've found.  There are all kinds of wonderful sites out there that contain useful tools.

9.  Blog about the software that you use.  Do you keep track of your clients in a database?  How do you use that database?  Do you remind yourself of their birthdays and send out cards?  Have you figured out some cool feature that you could explain articulately?

10.  Feature your favorite charity.  Hopefully, we all give a little back.  What is your favorite charity and why?  You could write all about the Muscular Dystrophy foundation for example, and maybe get some fellow ActiveRainers to open their wallets.

I hope this gives everyone at least one good idea that they haven't thought of before.  If you have more good ones, please comment!

Nice ideas Karen.  I post a lot to Localism about neighborhoods in the area.  It has helped me with google and I am working with a buyer who found me through these posts.  I also had 2 different Realtors call me this week with referrals.  Both of them found me through my Localism blogs.

Thanks Karen! I am trying to get used to the idea of "blogging". But, I guess one has to start at some point. Fear of the unknown is what keeps one back.....Your ideas will certainly be helpful!

Hi - I wanted to stop by and say I enjoyed this post and I think it has some great ideas. I wrote a post recently about ideas for blogging and I included a link to this post. Just thought you might like to know that it was referred to in another post. If you would like to see, it is here. I'm trying to get more people to write about their 'worst clients ever'! :)

Thanks for all the ideas.  I have wanted to start a blog for over 2 months, but was clueless on what to write about. After reading your ideas, I have built up the confidence to start blogging. Thank you.
