Good luck Sheila and congrats on living your dream.
Sheila you go get them. Don't let anyone hold you back. I think you already know you are going to be great at what you do. Best of everything to you.
Sheila,
Congatulations on your leap of faith! Working with seniors, what a great avenue to tap into! This gives me a lot of food for thought in my own business! Thanks,
Holly
Sheila, I'm so glad you are able to pursue your Staging business full time now. It's a crazy time but you obviously have the drive & determination to make it work. Congrats!
Sheila, congrats and good luck to you! Welcome to AR, it's a great support system. When I first joined I spent hours going back and reading posts. There is so much you can learn. If you don't find a post on it...just ask, someone will help you.
I see you're from KY, I have family in Danville. We cut off at Elizabethtown when we visit. Beautiful state!
Sheila,
I applaude you on so many levels. You are definitely taking a leap of faith by pursuing your passion in this down economy! Working with the older client base is a great and under-tapped market. With the graying of the baby boomers, it is a market that will continue to grow.
This was something I tried years ago (before staging was really well-known). I contracted with a senior living community to be their "resident designer". I helped formulate floorplans for all new residents and helped them choose what furnishings they not only couldn't live without but would fit in their new homes. Most of these folks had no local family members to help them transition to their new digs. This meant I wore several hats: decorator, counselor, adopted daughter (lol), and uber listener! It was a wonderful experience, one I don't regret, but one I don't wish to repeat either!!
The beauty of this industry is that there are so many opportunities to explore. As you continue to work your new business, I wish you tremendous success and a multitude of opportunities for growth!

Sheila ~ Good luck to you in establishing and growing your business. As others here have said, A/R is a great resource. You have some excellent ideas for the Senior market and we hope that you'll write some posts about your experiences!
Thanks to all of you for your encouragement. I'll let you know how the adventure continues! I can't tell you how empowering it is to hear from you!
Welcome to AR!! Much success to you and happy staging!!
Welcome to AR Shelia! So glad you are here and are following your dream. Sounds like you are off to a wonderful start. I look forward to reading more.
You are an A+ stager everyday that I am at my office I enjoy my purple wall. My office enjoys your vision on a daily basis. What a pleasure, I truly understand why client want to stay in their home after you have transformed it. Girl 09 is your year! Run no walking. I see your paragraphs as excitement.
Sheila,
What a great way to expand your business! Helping your senior community is very commendable. Although the task of staging for seniors is a lot more labor intensive, the reward is far more valuable than staging a model or vacant. Best wishes to you for a successful year!
Hi Michelle, I do worry about the time constraints of working for seniors. I imagine though doing well in that area will be a sign that I need to expand and bring on other team members who feel the way I do. Just another adventure in this journey! Thanks for the good wishes.
Hey Donna, I do believe that Kentucky is beautiful - I am glad you got to see it. It is funny because I used to live in Fort Smith, AR. It is a truly small world isn't it? I wasn't staging there when I lived there - how's the market there?
I love AR so far!
Sheila,
Congrats on your accomplishments. It is an inspiration to everyone else trying to do the same.
Thanks.
And, by the way, I know what you mean about the lack of paragraphs. I may not be an English major, but understand the value of a paragraph!
Thanks Andrew! I still cringe everytime that I read this post with no paragraphs. Luckily I have been able to figure it out since then! Thanks for sharing!
I hear you sister! Way to be brave and bold and for having faith in yourself. It makes a big difference when you have extra time to put into your home staging business. I am thrilled for you that you are following your passion!
Aron - I have just loved being able to devote 100% of my time to my business. I am having a ball and I am so blessed! I hope that everyone gets to do what they love for a living. It doesn't even seem like work! Thanks for stopping by!
My hat is off to anyone who works with Seniors to help prepare their homes for sale. I don't have the patience to do this on a regular basis, but I know a few stagers who do this fulltime and they have my deep respect.
I worked with a senior recently. He was selling his condo and had moved into a senior care facility. His adult son lived in another city and it was difficult for him to help with his father's home sale. it was a challenge to communicate with this gentleman who was very hard of hearing. Also a challenge to get paid in a timely fashion. I would send invoices along with SASE envelopes and he would still forget to pay. He once sent me a check for a month's worth of staging, then sent a second check a few days later (which I ended up voiding and sending back to his son) because he had forgotten that he had already paid me for the month.
So you senior move managers out there, thank you for the job you do. It is certainly needed.
