Public Fishing Site Information
Oakland County lakes offer a tremendous variety of public fishing locations. With the exception of Proud Lake, most lakes have both lakefront and lake access sites for backlot owners. There are also some smaller deeded easement areas for homeowners. Information on these sites is only available from the homeowner.
Wolverine Lake Public Access site is located at 425 Glengary Rd between S. Commerce and Benstein Rds. Paved to gravel road with space for approximately 15 trailers. This site has one concrete slab ramp. Wolverine Lake offers fishing for Walleye, bass, crappie, and bluegill. Additional fish species may be present.

Proud Lake Recreation Area Has over 4600 square acres of undeveloped land. Several hiking and equestrian trails, two swimming beaches, one river fishing area, and two launch sites. All sites require an access pass from the State of Michigan DNR. Access passes can be purchased at the park office on Wixom Rd or yearly passes can be ordered online. Mine arrived in about 10 days.
Proud

Lake Boat Launch site number one is located off Bass Lake Rd. Take Benstein Rd north to Bass Lake. This launch site has an unpaved access through approximately one-half mile of woods and trails. Proud Lake is only 3 acres, I do not recommend larger boats because or the access road and small lake size. There is parking for approximately 6 trailers.
Proud Lake Recreation Area. Camper only access site. Entrance located between Benstein and Wixom Rds on Gengary Rd. (photos coming soon) There is a gravel launch for a few boats. Shore fishing is also allowed at this location. Only registered campers have access to this site. I stayed there one weekend last July. The park was full, but not the lake.
Huron River fishing site is located on the west side of Proud Lake Recreation Area. The river is stocked for seasonal trout fishing. Additional access site for river fishing is located further north on Wixom Rd. No boat launch site available at this location. Today, both sites were full! Stream fishing for trout is heavy at certain times of the year. Rainbow and brown trout, northern pike, bass, blue gill and crappie can be found in the waters of Proud Lake Recreation Area.
Long Lake Off Cooley Lake Rd between Caroll Lake and Union Lake Rd The Long Lake access site has
approximately 15 trailer spaces of hard packed gravel, a circlular drive, and one launch ramp. This site is usually busy on the weekends. Bass, bluegill, crappie are the main fish in the lake.
Union Lake: Located right on busy Union Lake Rd this site is usually packed to capacity on weekends during the summer. This is a pay to launch site. During the week, it may be half full of trailers. There are around 30 spots for trailers. With 466 acres, Union Lake is full of great fishing spots. Walleye, bass, and bluegill all can be caught on drop offs and near a sunken Island near the center of the lake.
Currently, the Union Lake ramp is being replaced. Access should be
available shortly.
