Town residents of New Fairfield, Connecticut, is set to vote this Saturday, May 5, 2007 on four different items.
1. New Fairfield 2007-2008 Town Municipal Budget
2. New Fairfield School District 2007 -2008 School Budget
The combined municipal and school budgets represent an increase of 2.89% over the current fiscal year's budgets. If approved, these budgets will increase the mill (tax) rate by 1.32%. The new mill rate will be 19.96, as compared to the current mill rate of 19.07.
3. Senior Center Project
Town voters will decide whether or not to move forward with the proposed new senior center to be built on the land at 31 and 33 Route 39 that was recently purchased by the town. A "Yes" vote would approve the bonding of $900,000 to pay the town's cost of the senior center, which is in addition to the estimated $1.3 Million of state and federal grants for this project. (Total cost for the senior center has been estimated to be $2.2 Million. The approximate $800,000 paid for the two properties is not included in the above figures. This land also now houses the two historic homes that were recently moved there.)
The new senior center would then be town-owned, replacing the the smaller, leased senior center in Heritage Plaza. It is said that the annual cost to the town for the bonds would be less than the annual lease of the current senior center.
4. New Fire Trucks
The New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department has requested the issuance of bonds to purchase three new fire trucks. The new trucks would replace three trucks that are each more than 22 years old. The Fire Department will pay for 25% of the cost, and the rest will be paid by the town.
Polls will be open Saturday, May 5, 2007.
