I have heard the following phrase countless times:  The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

Tell it to the river that carves the canyon...

To the wind that changes mountains...

Yet I continue to hear this "definition" almost daily.

Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result?

This is the definition of determination.  The definition of persistence.

Sometimes you have to fight through tough times.

Are you working hard?  Do you take care of your clients?

Then keep doing what you are doing.

Persistence wears down resistance.

I like the imagery that you create, but ultimately, the river carves the canyon without PURPOSE.

The wind changes the mountain without PURPOSE.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result IS at the very least futile.

So I guess I would either call it insanity or

PRACTICE!

If it's working don't fix it.  I first heard the definition of Insanity when attending a 12 step program.  And believe this definition makes perfect sense to a practicing alcoholic or addict......lots of my sayings come from the rooms of 12 Step Programs because "it works if you work it".

The hard part for me is making a decision to do something different when my old ways prove fruitless!

Thanks for the post.

Oh yeah, another one----"keep doing what you are doing and keep getting what you are getting."

If it is good, keep it up.  If it is not working, do something differently!

Hi Ron and Susan.

Ron , with or without purpose, they do change the mountain and carve the canyon.

Susan, I think too many agents (and people in general) change for the sake of changing.  Sometimes things take time.

Hi Ken, Persistence is the key that unlocks change, I guess. :-)

I know that my expired listing program makes me feel insane sometimes, but I keep it up every day. I call, mail, and deliver packets every day. People around me think that I'm insane for doing it.

When I do phone prospecting, and make countless calls to apartments or to homes near a listing, I feel insane. I even ask myself, "Why do I do this every day?"

When I sit in Open Houses week after week and get no leads, I feel insane for having rushed around.

When I door knock, and no one seems interested in what I have for them, I feel insane.

When I spend my money to reach my sphere and neighborhood month after month and hear nothing back, I feel insane...

But when my phone rings as a result of one or more of those activities, I feel very sane for having done those things to get business.
