Florida Fires

Governor Crist has declared a State of Emergency for all of Florida

We now have mandatory "burn bans" in some areas and the smoke is thick at my own house, which is about 30 miles from the closest burn site.

15 new fires broke out today! I spoke with a family member who lives in Jacksonville (approximately 100 miles north of us), and was told the smoke is extremely dense there, since they have fires to the north and south of them. If the wind shifts, they just get hit from another direction.

Please pray for us!

Update: All fires are under control!

It's safe to move to Florida

The news is that two teen boys,  13 and 16 have been apprehended for starting the Georgia fire.  They should be house grounded for a year,  except for school and work for fire fighters cleaning toilets.  scrubbing floors, and doing hard firefighter scrub (but safe) work for them for a year.  Many people with health conditions have probably died as a result of the intense smoke we have had all over the state of Fla.  Not to mention the destroyed realestate assets and fire fighting expenses.  I t makes me sooooooooo  mad.

Carol, I don't know about you, but my allergies have been out of control, the smell is horrible, and I can't get rid of the headaches from the smoke!  We have been praying for rain. Specifically, we've been praying for down pours with no wind and no lightning, and we promised God we won't complain when it comes!

Lisa -- I am getting the updates hourly on network news but thought I would check in with fellow Rainers and find out if everybody is okay and if there is anything we can help out with. I understand there are 100s of homes threatened and several already lost. Found your post, so I am starting here.

Praying for rain with you. Take care and keep us updated, JoEllen

oops, just re-read the date on this post and realized it was last year, still praying for rain for you guys over there!

Hello Lisam

Last year we, in central and southern California had many huge fires going on all at the same time.  The one behind Santa Barbara was the largers recorded fire in California.  Then we added the San diego fires and the Santa Clarita fires...it was awful.  WE had small children and my daughter was pregnant.  These fires burned for over 2 months...The largest one was less than 6 miles from Santa Barbara where our home is.  We had ash that blew all summer and through the fall untile the winter rains were really hard...late January and Feb.  The ash when it was even a little windy make it look like the fire was still raging outside...That ash is so so bad for your lungs.  We forgot to close up our windows one evening (the wind had changed and we had been blessed with clean air for a day) and by the morning the inside of our home was black...ash everywhere...just everywhere.

I will pray for the fires to be put out soon and for everyone to remain safe.  See if you can get out of the fire areas once in a while for a day or 2 to give your lungs a break.  Wash your vehicles and dry them often...that ash is really hard on paint!
