I just read a really great blog post by Loreena Yeo , Broker|Realtor(R) of Frisco Texas Real Estate

She made some great points about using keywords to drive traffic to your site or blog.  Her blog truly contributes to the wealth of information one can find on Active Rain!

May I make one caution though?   Make the keywords MEANINGFUL at the same time.  I ran across another blog here on Active Rain which has nothing but keywords repeated over and over again.  Every few days, this member will submit 5 new blog posts.  The member lists areas of appraisal coverage over and over (and over!) again with links back to their web site.

The text is something like:

Winter Garden Florida Appraisers, Winter Garden Florida Appraisals, Winter Garden Florida Home Appraiser, Winter Garden Florida property appraiser, Winter Garden Appraisals, Winter Garden Appraiser, Winter Garden Appraisal, Winter Garden Appraisers, Florida Appraisers, Winter Garden Florida Appraisals, Winter Garden Florida Home Appraiser, Winter Garden Florida property appraiser

or

Clermont Appraisal, Clermont Appraisals, Clermont Appraisers, Clermont Appraiser, Clermont Florida Appraisers, Clermont Florida Appraisals, Clermont Florida Home Appraiser, Clermont Florida property appraiser, Clermont Florida residential appraisal, Clermont home appraisals, Clermont appraisals

I mean....where is the meaningful content for our community?  Members like this just rip off this community by exploiting Google's SEO for their own promotion.

I will advertise my own "signature" in every one of my blog posts, as I am here to promote my business.  BUT - let's do this with something meaningful and contributory to this great community!

If you run across posts which are nothing but pages and pages of key word placements....please have the guts to flag them to the Active Rain community.  Leave a comment for the member to encourage them to not just copy and paste pointless text - but rather to embrace the spirit of this great community and offer something truly helpful to others.

The greatest business people I have met are ones which spend more time giving than taking.  They never have to worry about having enough business - as the cream always rises to the top.

May we all strive to be sweet cream rather than sour milk!

Make it a productive day

wow, I'm always amazed at how some folks can try to "game" a system.  usually those don't last though.

Well what they dont understand is that it does absolutely nothing for Google. Key word density is taught by people who know nothing about SEO and have not read a thing on Google in the past 5 years. They stopped using keyword density years and years ago. They are not that dumb as to think that just because a page uses the same words over and over that somehow that page is REALLY about that subject.

If you just write naturally about a subject and not think about key words you will use more variety and thus make a longer tail which will further increase the likelihood of traffic. Its all about synonyms and varying phrases not repitition. You might even try writing in another language!

Gail - this member I referred to will come on and post 5-6 new entries on any day. Sometimes they will even rip posts from other members and just feature a portion of the text...and then follow it up with keyword after keyword after keyword!

Now when I find this happening, I do a Google search for some of the text and will flag the post as advertisement, junk, and plagiarism as the poster will usually not reference the original source.

Shane - right you are!  In my own website, as well as my blogs, I try to just write fresh content.  I do include my "signature" to my blogs as I hope that my contact information will get picked up along with my post itself.   And so far this has served me well.

Besides, I think if someone finds you on Active Rain from a Google search (say, "Home appraiser Orlando") - and then looks are your drivel spilled over and over through your blog....it is a very unprofessional statement which is made.

If I were a new client looking to get a "read" on a potential vendor (Realtor, appraiser, home inspector, etc) - if I ran across blogs with repeating keywords....it would be a real turn off for me...despite having served its purpose in bringing me there in the first place.

I'd rather show some of my original thought and personality to "keep" them coming back or moving foward with a new business relationship.

I haven't seen any like this. I think that writers owe it to write meaningful content though.

I see it on a regular basis from high point blogger here on the rain.  Thinly veiled but obvious to anyone who keeps reading about SEO.

Hi Richard...Like Cindy I have seen it also.  One that I flagged posted a market report for the same small area every single day.  It was basically the same text with some words changed (numbers, etc.) that did not even amount to 50 words.

Even though I flagged them twice and wrote the reason why they were not stopped from doing it.  Now that was a while ago and I have not gone back there because I didn't want to find him still doing the same thing.

Kate

P.S. I am not discouraging flagging.  Please do it when it needs to be done.

Kate - I had to flag them a couple of times before action was taken.  I also found where they were stealing content from another member's blog - and I reported that to both active rain and the member from whom they stole.

Having more than one member flag posts will help highlight the gamers.  We have to take the lead to keep our streets free from clutter in this community!  That way, visitors will want to stay and hang out a while!  ;)
