All things animal print...

By
Real Estate Agent with Team Reba of RE/MAX Metro Eastside www.TeamReba.com

I got a bit of a shock the other day when I was brought into one of my colleague's prospects home and found that each and every room displayed some very large form of animal print.  From the zebra rug, to the tiger chaise lounge, there was also a leopard print futon, a lamp, masks, figurines, and oh, so much more.

What was killing me was that my co-worker had pumped me up to the seller as the staging expert in our team.  Whew!  This one is going to make me really work.  And some of that work will be on how to tactfully ask someone to pack up their urban safari look while on market.  It's abundantly clear how much she loves the stuff.

Some of it could be fun to use in staging but not all at the same time and in the same room.  We've already come up with some plans on how to spread it out, so that's good.  Wish me luck!

That is a challenge...animal prints can get so overdone...of course the biggest turn-off for me are the actual animals, trophied to the walls or displayed as art around the house (taxidermied). YUK!

Hi Reba ~ I laughed out loud as I read your post.  Good luck with the de-personalization if that's the right term for this situation.

Yes, it felt a little bit like Noah's Ark massacred.

Reba, you just need to make her understand that while her fabulous animal prints are an amazing personal statement (and they are...'-), we can't make such big design statements in a staged home as we are appealing to a larger demographic who may not be comfortable with such high fashion...

I gave a client a written report on staging their home. The family room, which was extremely small,, had a giant, REAL bear skin "rug" hanging on the wall, with a toy gun hanging from it. It was at eye level, and ate up the whole room. I recommended they take it down, as it was not only distracting, but some buyers aren't thrilled with dead animal skins in a room. They refused to remove it (per their Realtor) and the house took about a year to sell. We can only try to help, the rest is up to them!
