Yesterday afternoon and early evening, my phone was ringing out of it's little belt holder, with bloggers from all over the region calling to say they were afraid to brave the area roadways.  The sidewalks in front of my house started to look like a winter Olympics skating venue as a steady drizzle of freezing rain coated the city, and I couldn't blame them.

Still, the gathering happened!  It was smaller, but in some ways almost better!

Last night, I sat around my dining room table with Jonathan Washburn and some favorite area blog buddies, and we talked about all kinds of stuff, from Active Rain to the real estate meltdown to the new administration to his adventures at NAR yesterday afternoon.

From left to right, we have James Downing, Margaret Woda (who brought some absolutely evil home-made cookies!), Jonathan Washburn, Craig Barrett, me, and Ken Montville.

Margaret Rome called in (the roads in Baltimore and we passed the phone to Jon, talking to her in front of my Christmas tree.  Yeah, yeah, it is still standing, although I did manage to get the ornaments off and put away!

If you ever get the chance to talk to Jon, get him talking about the early days of Active Rain.  His face lights up and he totally personifies that old adage that you find something you love to do and you'll never have to "work".

And I have to acknowledge John MacArthur for his efforts to make it.  He slid his way from Olney toward DC and after a couple of hours hadn't even gone half way, so he slid home again.  We missed you, John!

Glad your get to-gether was so much fun!  It is nice to meet Rainers face to face.  The photos made me feel like I was almost there -- Now, can I have one of those Woda cookies?

Pat... wish I could have been there last night, but my wife wouldn't let me drive in this weather! Last week I was on the beach in Mexico!

It was a great time, Pat, and you are most certainly the hostess with the mostest.  The goodies were fantabulous (as was the compnay) and, you're right, Margaret's cookies were to die for and I almost certainly had more than my share.....

Pat. I hope that you got my response on your post. Thank you so much for the invite. What a merry band of people. Shame about the weather. I hope you think of me next time.

Sorry I missed it. I canceled taking my father to see my mother in the nursing home but it was pretty nasty when I went to the office that is only 10 -15 minutes away. With the forecast calling for freezing rain I thought discretion was the better part of valor. This morning my driveway and street were a sheet of ice. I hope to make it next time.

Crap!  The pic isn't showing on my PC, but it sounds like a wonderful time and compilation of people.  I envy the day and that day will come...

Pat, I'm so sorry Margaret Rome and I couldn't get there. I was looking forward to seeing you again and meeting some other Rainers and Jon. But we're both cautious, and when the snow changed to freezing rain, I knew we were right. Now the only issue I have is this batch of cookies I baked that now my husband and I will end up eating! Oh well, next time we'll make it for sure. Thanks for organizing the get together and for sharing it here.

Hi Pat...I felt so bad when I spoke with you last evening.  I really hoped to get up there to meet you, Jon, and all the others.  We would have had quite a crowd if we had all appeared on your doorstep.

I'm sure I missed a very special evening.

I think I see a Christmas tree still lurking in the background on one of your pictures. I am sure it made the evening feel more cozy. A late seasonal get together is sometimes better than rushing during the holidays. Congrats on a great turnout despite the weather.

Patricia, It is just pure D cold here in Texas right this minute. I wore a turtle neck with a fleece sweater and a long scarf and my leather coat today. I moved like a robot but was still cold while showing houses! Stay warm my friend. Looks like a warm gathering. Warm hearts!
