For die-hard home stagers and staging fanatics around the world, home staging is believed to be linked to any profession, celebrity, or life event with-in six degrees. For our first attempt, let's start with an easy one...

Wayne Newton and Home Staging
  1. Wayne Newton is known as Mr. Vegas
  2. Vegas's long-running top show was Siegfried and Roy
  3. Siegfried and Roy are famous magicians
  4. Magicians are known for their sleight-of-hand tricks
  5. Sleight-of-hand uses misdirection to bring attention to a desired area
  6. Attracting attention to desired areas is a key component in home staging

The master bedroom shown the photo below has several angles with low ceiling points. Having no other point-of-interest, the eye is immediately drawn to these low-set roof lines. Buyer's (especially those over 4'10") may view this master bedroom as a series of obstacles.

The staged photo below shows how staging redirects the eye from negative features by creating a visual display that captures buyers' attention. Instead of focusing on the negatives, staging allows buyers to see how to work around less desired areas of a home.

Some critics of home staging accuse stagers of "covering up" flaws in the house; however, that is a uneducated or misunderstood concept of the profession. Home staging shows us how to optimize the unique characteristics of each house.

interesting... I guess now I can get to Wayne Newton, I always knew I could get to Kevin Bacon (actually I only need like 3 degrees for him, but hey that's the game right?)

You're right, Kristina. Staging isn't about covering up the problems, it's about showing solutions to the problems. You did a great job with that room. It's beautiful!

OK that was a complicated analogy of proof and you pulled it off - the staging was great too.

Michelle:  You're welcome.

Melissa:  That's the game!  So, you have a Bacon Number of three?  Excellent!

Kathy:  Thank you.

Laurie:  I have come across some homeowners who want to throw a rug over stained carpet or art work over a hole in the wall... That's a no, no.

What a great post! It is so true! We accentuate the positive features of the home, not "cover up" the flaws. Perfect example of great staging! Thanks for sharing!

Kristina, you are so witty!  Have you been stuck inside with all this snowy cold weather and your mind started to wander?  Great post, keep them coming!

Bethany:  Your welcome.  Those before and after photos come in handy!

Michelle:  Some call it "Cabin Fever."  I get a little stir crazy during these long winter months - but I still have fun with it!

I wonder sometimes what builders are thinking when the build or remodel odd shaped rooms.

Cindy, this was a 1940's home in which the attic was transformed into the master suite.  Believe me when I tell you that there was NO other place to put the bed in this room.  The good news... the house sold on the first showing!  Yeah for home staging!
