Why Own Your Own Home?

Have you ever considered what tenants miss?

Have you ever considered how important a home of your own is?

I'm talking about a home like an old fashion marriage, not serial monogamy as practice by so many. A home like Mom, not Dad's third wife. A home like our Grandparents kept or maybe your Great Grandparents.

The real estate market was a lot better and considerably more expensive when I first wrote those words. Today more than at any time in our history people question the logic of home ownership rather than the how!

My late Brother, Jack wrote about a home,

Grandmas' House

There was a time in our lives

As you well know,

When there was a special place

Called Grandma's House.

On a quite street

Lined with proud old trees,

Was an aged two-story house

That meant so much to me,

Called Grandma's House

It was filled with love

That grandparents and grandchildern share.

And it was felt by all

Who entered there,

You knew it was a grandma's house.

Grandpa in his favorite chair

Watching "Gunsmoke" on TV,

And Grandma in the kitchen

Wanting to play cards with me,

This was Grandmas House.

Aunts, uncles, and cousins

All gathered for a holiday,

Made Thanksgiving and Christmas

Unique in a way,

Know only to Grandmas House.

First Grandpa then Grandma

Sadly I say -have died,

And no one knows how much

We individually cried,

To loose what was special about Grandma's House

The memories are with me

As I age and I roam,

About the qualities essential

To make a house a home.

Shared by all at Grandma's House.

I'm thankful I knew my Grandma's House.

Bill - I knew I'd like Jack as well.  With those words, I agree so fully.  I think we sometimes forget that a house is really a home.

Jason,

Jack had his moments. I've got allot of his poems to publish, Brenda and I were going to do it last year but it was to soon.

Jack caught the essence of Grandmas' house, they lived 150 miles North of us and we'd come and go often with out warning. I'd try to sneak in after a date, my girl friend was only 7 miles away, almost never made it in with out waking Grandma. If Grandma heard you she'd get up and fix a large meal no matte when you got there.

That home is apart of our being. People today just don't understand my Grandparents owned that home all my life until Grandma died, even Eric felt at home there. My Dads' parents home was also their office it was the same, one of my cousins own it now, that house has been in the family for 70 or 80 years.

Tenants miss all the memories and love.

Bill,

Having just lost my grandmother recentlythis poem brought tears, but they were good tears. Garn lived till 96 yrs old and wherever she was, it was grandma's house to me.

Bill - thanks for sharing, my wife has written many stories about her grandma's house. I didn't have quite that experience myself, both grandmother's having died when I was young.

Mike,

Homes are more than houses.

One of the greatest things to happen to me was knowing all 4 of my Grandparents into my early 20's and three of my Great Grandparents into my late teens. I still have both my parents a live and very well, they winter in Fl and return to Michigan every spring.

All the family homes are gone, except one of my cossins still uses my faternal grandparents home as an office for the insurance bussiness she took over from her parents who took it over from my Grand Parents, they established it in the 1930's.

I have in deed been blessed!
