Gene,
Thanks for getting involved with this. I have not heard of the activerain fraud group? Is that an active group here?
Gene I don't know how you find the time to do so much. Quality blogs and all these volunteer groups you belong.
Mike - just hit the fraud logo up there and it'll take you right to our page. Feel free to post any warnings, schemes and especially successful prosecution information. Realtors need to know their efforts DO make a difference.
Thanks Gene. Great to know that there is a group finding those involved in unethical practice.
Keep up the good work!
I agree that this is a collective effort which needs addressing on every level. Personally, I always refer clients to local lenders with a rock-solid history of exceptional customer service and ethics.
Thanks for the infoIll make sure I refer people that are good
Chris - it's great that you refer to proven lenders. Unfortunately too many people are susceptible to getting scammed. Minorities facing foreclosure - many of whom were defrauded getting into the home to begin with, are the people most likely to respond to a call or mailed solicitation or, even worse, someone they go to church with, who has a friend who kows a guy and the next thing you know they're victims again. Educating Realtors is part of the battle. Getting to the public is a much bigger task. There was an excellent post on Inman today about how scam artists outspend honest agents by a wide margin to reach their target suckers. Sad.
Finally! We need a nationwide group like this. Mortgage fraud has gone on far too long. Way to go and thanks for sharing this.
I so agree this needs to be addressed and explored. This country is in a world of hurt right now.
It is great to hear about such an important group in the Real Estate Industry. Educating and providing information to Realtors help us to better understand what to look for and what not to do. Looking forward to reading your follow up articles about the Real Estate Fraud Task Force. Thank you for taking the time to share all this valuable information.
Good for you. A place to compile all them. I like this idea.
Gene, what an awesome work! Thank you for taking the time to be a part of it, and for informing us. ;) Just another great reason to love being a Realtor and being part of this great organization!
Gene, go get those bad apples! If they spent as much time and effort on honest endeavors, they could get rich without having to worry about the slammer.
Gene ... thanks for this excellent article about your new grass root effort at "Real Estate Fraud Task Force". I'd like to hear more about that and will check out the other articles.
I serve on the OCAR Local Government Relations Committee. Perhaps this would come up as an issue for us. Let's see how it works out.
Best wishes. Harrison
Harrison - A gentleman from OC attended our last meeting but his was the only card I didn't get. I believe he was the GAD for his association and as such would probably be involved in your LGR.
It's great to get this kind of response from around the country because it truly is a nationwide problem - and some of these people will pull a scam in one state, get slapped on the wrist, and run off to another state where they pull the same scam. Only they learn from the mistakes that got them caught in the first place so it takes longer to uncover them in the new place. Realtor and public awareness is the ONLY way to get a handle on this.
I know the problem is more widespread in California than just Riverside and Ventura counties so any of you in CA who would like more info, please contact either myself of Kay Runion in Ventura. (GAD@vchomefinders.com). We'll be happy to send you info or come talk to your BOD or appropriate committee. Feel free to talk to your traveling Directors as well and they can attend they can sit in on our next meeting in Sacramento in June. If enough members speak up about the problem, CAR will step up and help. After all, the current mortgage crisis, foreclosures and short sales will go away in a year or two but fraud just morphs to fit the times. Fraud is never out of style.
Way to go.... As market crumbles fraud expands. It is unbelievable....even people putting ads pretending to be agents and referring for a marketing fee.
Great post!
Fraud is ugly, lights should be shined on all that do. It does not matter how it gets done, we just have to do it.
It's great that these groups exist!!!
